Considering the massive suspense and intrigue in "that" thread it ain't being reported much, is it?

All local terrestrial radio and tv channels are only playing religious music and excerpts from the holy Qaran.

Businesses will be closed for anything up to one week. It is well known locally that the timing of this announcement was meticulously (?sp) planned, and it was made at approx 19:45hrs Abu Dhabi time last night.

Local satellite channels are giving reasonable coverage to the death, but the international channels hardly any (I saw it on CNN and BBCW, but no mention at all on Sky as far as I am aware.)

The timing is quite important, given that the US Elections are underway and getting all of the World's attention and focus.

Whilst that is going on, the power struggle in the UAE between the Sons of Sheikh Zayed continues quietly in the background out of the limelight. The new ruler has not yet been decided and Sheikh Makhtoum Bin Rashid al Makhtoum of Dubai is now in place as the temporary ruler.

Forgive me for asking, but has he been lying in a fridge for a couple of weeks? Why did they announce this yesterday when the biggest political story in the Western World is underway?

Most of the world's attention is now on the US elections, and not on the possible power struggle and regional instability that may arise out of Sheikh Zayed's passing.

I think that these potential fears were hugely influential in the decision to make an announcement at a time when it will go largely un-noticed by the rest of the World.

I apologise, but I'm afraid I can't get my head around the point you seem to be making.

You seem to be suggesting that the announcement was deliberately timed to be overshadowed by the American elections?

Yet even within this rolling coverage of elections, most channels have been placing other stories higher up the agenda than the UAE. News 24 placed a greater emphasis yesterday on nurses and only made passing references to the UAE. CNN also only briefly mentioned the UAE in the time I was watching.
