Errrm - Border TV was off air due to a power cut?
No you don't say
i'd never have known.
Border TV could have taken a camera crew into Carlisle and done a live broadcast from the affected areas . ITV news did .
but it would still have to go through border tv studios? which were without power.

I saw Lookaround on the ITV News Channel good to see it on location in Carlisle but lets be honest here why could they not have done that over the weekend .

But there was a back-up plan and they did do it - they routed Tyne Tees to the rst of the region.
It's not perfect, but it provided virtually a normal service to those who had TV. No organisation can have a back-up that will provide a 100% perfect service in every single percieveable and in-percieveable circumstance.

Yes and as i have said from the start of this thread Border should have a back up plan in the event of any emergency situations. That is my whole point. They are still supposed to be providing a service to other parts of the region outwith Carlisle which were NOT affected by flooding .

LOVE IT!
The unintentional ones are always the best ones!
Ha ha...well spotted!!
I understand the point being made but even if you have a generator on site there's no guarantee it will work everytime(look at what happened to the BBC in London a few years ago!!!)
What usually happens is that generators are hired in-however as most of Carlisle was flooded and the phones were disrupted it would have been v tricky to get a generator and staff in to connect it up to Border enabling them to broadcast.
I guess this time you have to put this down to exceptional circumstances.

SO
Good programme on Border tonight - The Day The Floods Came, presented by Fiona Armstrong, and featuring footage shot on Saturday in Carlisle.
It may have been late, but Border were able to put out a programme about the floods that the WHOLE region could enjoy. There was simply no way that it could have gone out at the weekend. Like you, Funky Guy, I am no fan of Border's output, but their coverage of the floods over the last few days has been second to none - and for that they should be commended.

I really think someone ought to tell 10.30 Border newsreader Kate Webster what channel she works for. At the end of every late bulletin she says ' We'll be back tomorrow in Breakfast ', maybe she thinks she's BBC1.

I'm sure someone at BBC Midlands said something along those lines - "bulletins tomorrow in GMTV" or something like that.

Similar to Des Lynam telling us that a football match is over on BBC2..... when he was on ITV1
