It's North East Tonight again here in Scotland the top story was about the flooding in Carlisle and they have pinched the pictures from ITV News.

And exactly where else are they going to get their pictures from? Tyne Tees TV obviously aren't going to send a crew out to Carlisle to film it, and Border can't film anything, so it's really not hard to see why they would use ITN's pictures...

Tyne Tees News are doing well enough to bother making a report for an area which is NOT from their region... Rolling Eyes . And suggesting that they're going to research Scottish stories and provide pictures from the Scottish borders is just crazy...

If you want coverage of either Scotland or Cumbria at the moment, best switch to BBC. Tyne Tees are and have always provided a good service for the North East, it's an extra that they're considering Cumbria this weekend... can you see ITV London doing a story about the South coast - I think not.

Get off your high horse and don't patronise me .I'm NOT suggesting that Tyne Tees cover Scottish stories. However i think that Border should be doing something there has been NO regional news from them all weekend.Carlisle isn't that big and they should have a Border reporter there doing something either via Tyne Tees or ITN.

How can Border do anything if Carlisle is without power and the city cut off? You try broadcasting during a power cut.....

Yes, but was the problem
a) the lack of power to Border studios
b) the lack of power to Caldbeck
c) both of the above

I'd like to think if it was b that as Caldbeck is recognised as a major tx that there is a back up plan. There must be back up plans surely for studios in case something catastrophic happens (eg the tv centre burns down - didn't that happen to Ideal World?). Although slightly different, at least when someone rings up UTV and tells them they've planted a bomb outside, someone has at least thrown a switch to give us Border over here! (eg bomb outside TVC newsroom). What are the back up plans? I can't think what BBC NI have done when there's been a bomb warning outside Ormeau Avenue. Maybe marksi can tell us.

One poster is telling us that the studios are away from where all the problems happened. Why isn't a camera crew out and about filming - at worst case scenario get an ordinary DV cam from somewhere and get filming if the equipment is ruined. Are the ads played out from Leeds - one of the slides was for a shop in Dumfries - me thinks it wasn;t shown in TTTV.

They should have a back up plan for power failures.Just because there is a flood in Carlisle they ignore the rest of the region sorry NOT good enough. As i have said this all happend Saturday lunchtime well over 24 hrs ago.

The studios are away from the area that is flooded.I don't think that they have damaged equipment .Border studios are up the hill behind the Travel Inn just as you come off the motorway.

It was (c). The flooding knocked out the local electricity substation which in turn blacked out Carlisle. The power supply to Caldbeck was also disrupted.

Yes, it seems (according to someone from NTL posting elsewhere on the net) that Border TV has lost all mains power, as has Caldbeck.

The feeds to the transmitters still pass through Border TV, so when there's no power there's no pictures from Leeds. The feeds to the other transmitters have been re-routed to avoid Carlisle.

NTL took a back-up generator to Caldbeck this morning

it will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow if Border is still out of action. I suspect they would attempt to broadcast Lookaround from a studio at Tyne Tees, the surely wouldn't get away with putting out a whole edition of North East Tonight

but what would they fill it with? i guess they could get pictures to newcastle using their SNG truck, but i doubt there is spare capacity in tyne tees editing suites for border people to edit reports.

Tyne Tees is still quite big though isn't it?

Border did have a crew out filming the floods on Saturday. I'd imagine that if their studios are still out of action by tomorrow then it will be broadcast as part of NET. However, supplies to Carlisle are now being restored, and with NTL sending a generator out to Caldbeck, chances are that Border could be back on air tomorrow.

It does seem a bit poor that there's been nothing from Border News all weekend. Surely what they could have done was get out and about filming then decamp to Newcastle and do the show from there. Tyne Tees could have come from their teeside studios.

Are Border still getting adverts for their own region or is it 100% Tyne Tees being shown?

The Border regional ads are still being shown.
On Freeview there is still a frozen picture from when the signal went down.
