Well if Kier Simmons from ITV News can do a piece to camera in Carlisle Border could have done something come on.

Although i'm not surprised it just proves the point i have made many times on here how poor Border is as a local ITV station.

I thought we were badly done by in Scotland Rolling Eyes but if Border can't even break the biggest story they're likely to have in their own region and base where the studios are located i have NO faith in them .Very poor indeed.

Yes, but they had NO power at their studios, making it impossible to broadcast a piece, let alone edit it.

Well perhaps if they had an operational news room in South Scotland like they should have it wouldn't be a problem.

I agree, but I doubt they could afford it.

ITV Wales News is a back up for West I think

Correct, young Jez.

Though we don't get it FAR often enough, however.

STV have a news studio in Edinburgh. Grampian have news studios in Dundee and Inverness. Why can't Border afford a small news studio in South Scotland. We all know the answer to that one which is why in Scotland we should have STV.

You should be grateful as you would get Andrew Jones as he is on this weekend. Mind you I prefer even Andrew to the guy who does GMTV bulletins on West.

Slightly OT but I always thought that Granada News was the back up for Border, not Tyne Tees News, as I remember that Granada News appeared on Border once when they couldn't do their own, and this wasn't too long ago either.

i thought it was strange that apart from a mention at the start the Tyne Tees team made no reference to things going on at the other end of the A69. I seem to remember a few years ago when YTV had to do a pan-regional bulletin (due to a technical problem at City Rd) that they did have a mix of YTV and Tyne Tees news items. Perhaps TTTV were only given short notice.

Tyne Tees have always had a closer relationship with Tyne Tees with Granada - sharing technical resources, staff, announcers etc. They also designed and installed Lookaround's set. They sometimes show Tyne Tees TV's regional programmes, such as Grundy's Wonders It's probably mainly because the Tyne Tees bulletin was more relevant though i.e. Northumberland also had flooding.

This is Border we're talking about. They barely have enough money to broadcast.

How ironic.... the biggest floods to hit Cumbria in nearly 40 years, and Border can't cover it because of a power cut, caused by the flooding (the floods knocked out an electricity substation, hence the loss of power.)That isn't to say that they won't have footage of it, however - I'm sure BBC, Sky and ITN will be able to provide some if Border don't have any of their own.

The local Carlisle evening paper (News & Star) was also a victim of floods, as it couldn't publish today, so it will be doing a special supplement on the floods in Monday's paper. I'll imagine that Border will do something similar on Lookaround once it gets back on air.

But they could have recorded a package and send it to Tyne Tees or Leeds to edit to use in the pan-regional bulletin - maybe even got the Tyne Tees presenter to do a generic link into a piece about the floods "in our region" and had Leeds play a seperate package to the Boredom transmitters whilst TTTV did their own.

They could have done if Carlisle wasn't cut off from the outside world
