Carlisle city centre is under 10 ft of water, also a major problem, as well as transmitter. It is impossible to get in or out of Carlisle, which makes Border doing any news coverage impossible.

The one time local news really comes into it's own...... and it's not possible to broadcast anything.
Not that many people in the affected area will be able to watch TV tonight due to having no power

I would have thought that Border TV would have some sort of back - up system when there is a power cut, but obvioulsy not. I know Carlisle very well, and the studios are not in the area affected by water, but the hurricane force winds winds were dreadful last night.

Their studios might be powered, but what about communications out of the building and getting staff into it to make a programme?

Well if Kier Simmons from ITV News can do a piece to camera in Carlisle Border could have done something come on.
Although i'm not surprised it just proves the point i have made many times on here how poor Border is as a local ITV station.
I thought we were badly done by in Scotland
but if Border can't even break the biggest story they're likely to have in their own region and base where the studios are located i have NO faith in them .Very poor indeed.

Hmmm. Well now Tyne Tees would seem an obvious [if English-biased] back-up for when Border fail for whatever reason, given the overlap/BBC equivalent. And of course midlands west and east likewise.
But in some regions, I'm not entirely sure who would be turned to for news programming [now transmission's not an issue].
HTV West is back up for Wales and Westcountry, but I've never known who back-up for West is. No doubt it's Westcountry now they're paired up -- but surely there's more overlap with Central south?
London would be an odd one too [though I daresay will never be an issue].

Yes, but they had NO power at their studios, making it impossible to broadcast a piece, let alone edit it.

Well perhaps if they had an operational news room in South Scotland like they should have it wouldn't be a problem.
