The morning bulletins will not be re-branded as they are filmed with Ireland AM in old Studio A (green screen studio in the original building). I imagine it would be too difficult to alternate between Studio A for Ireland AM and the Sony Studio just for the news (Especially for Aidan who would have to run over to the Sony Studios for the Sports News! and back again every so often) Once Ireland AM moves to the new studio its news bulletins will receive the new look. For now it seems The 5.30 News will be the only news program to re-brand.

Is the new set going to be a virtual green screen set like the old one? Also what other programmes are going to be coming from the new studios?
ED
Everything will move the new studios eventually as Studio A used for ''Ireland AM, The Morning Show, Vincent Browne, Midday, Xpose'' and Studio B used for ''Midweek, General Election and Presidential debates'' in the main building are not being upgraded to HD. So any show TV3 wish to film in HD will have to come from the new Sony Studio next door. I am sure the new studio will be non blue screen, but I guess 5:30 will tell

It is truly hideous. It is a shabby attempt to be more 'hip.' I am really disappointed as I thought things couldn't get much worse from their previous presentation. The name is horrendous aswell.

Horrendous indeed - don't they have FYI over on 3e to be hip? (Although I'd be surprised if anyone actually watches FYI). Its not all bad, the lower thirds are a lot more understated than the old ones, but the presentation is generally horrific. (And are we sure this is from the new Sony HD Studio Dublin? The virtual set looks like nothing they couldn't have done with the existing virtual studio).
Seems like they are trying to make "The 5.30" a distinct programme in much the same way as News at Ten used to be, with signoffs "The 5:30" instead of "TV3 News". The TV3 News logo was only seen around the American presidential election report (along with the CNN logo - they have a deal to use CNN reports). Now why they need to do this when they have no other news bulletins other than summaries I don't know.

I don't think the look of "the 5:30" is a bad as you lot make out. OK, the studio does look a little like a spaceship, but for a TV3 green screen effort it looks quite nice, certainly a world a way from Tonight with Vincent Browne.
Virtual reality sets can look good, if done well The GAA Show looks good, as does London Tonight. The whole look of The 5:30 is almost very good, great view of Dublin, they've just got to make it look a bit less spaceshipy.

rdd, I think you hit the nail on the head. They have no other major TV3 News branded output. All the other weekday bulletins are incorporated into programmes, and at weekends, 1 short bulletin of 2 or 3 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, is not enough to justify turning the TV3 News at 5:30 into The 5:30.
This comes across as doing news without trying to use the word "News". Commercial broadcasters in the UK and Ireland seem to have an irrational fear of the word. In the UK, it's mostly radio broadcasters who pull this kind of trick. The Heart Network introduce their bulletins by saying, "Here's the latest."; Capital FM Brand their bulletins "Capital Reports". Pre-Global Radio, the GWR, later GCap station, branded their bulletins as The Update.
Content wise, the 5:30 is no different than the old News at 5:30. All the changes are style, rather than substance. 1 anchor instead of 2, a different virtual studio setup, graphics changes, it's all very minor stuff really. And there are times when reports from the morning bulletins with the orange colour scheme, appear in the Midday bulletin, without changing the colour scheme.
Whatever the misgivings may have been about the old bulletin, this is nothing more than re-arranging the deck chairs.
