Just a topic for people wishing to discuss the TV3 News (Ireland).

Personally, since they changed from the lovely newsdesk with people in the background and the blue and yellow to this horrible red and blue and yellow and white and purple mish-mash of titling and newscasting, things have gone down hill and to be honest the viewers must be dropping off too because the quality of the news stories are poor.

That said, TV3 is a force far better produced and directed AND presented than that of the abysmal RTÉ which I dub "Rubbish Tatty Editing".

Views, comments, remarks etc. welcome by all.

P.S. the new-look TV3 continuity is lovely isn't it?!

I love the pure american style of the graphics. It's like CNN in the late 80's with the gradient fonts not to mention the animating presenter astons that take about 2 minutes to animate on.

There's a rather interesting story about TV3 news here if your wanting a look inside how they moved to server based production using the latest Avid technology, whilst RTE probably still are tape editing hence the quality of the reports...

Tapeless TV3

Presentation is nice, I love the way the ARC is so smooth on terrestrial (I'm not being sarcastic either), no big flicks or dissolves to black... it just ... moves. It's too good it looks like it's done by a DVE.

Personally I prefered the way it was before the crappy american-style broadcast. In my opinion CNN's new European style is the best looking by far. It's crisp, legible and easily interpreted. TV3 is still using character outlines, text shadows and motion graphics all on the text alone never mind the rubbish graphic they have on 4 second repeat at the head of each story. As for the purple, I've never seen such tack for sports commentating, but I can see where it came from with the Sports Tonight look.

The new-look continuity as I said looks very nice indeed and I'd like to see it flow into the newsroom and anchor the whole thing around the news because that's what's losing the viewers to the more newsy RTÉ.

The absolute best thing though is the lighting and the sound on TV3... no Charlie Bird SHOUTING or general SHOUTING at the audience. If only Claire Byrne would smile more like she did in the old days Laughing

Hmm...never been a big fan of TV3 News - its the only terrestrial news bulitten which has a fixed entertainment section presented by a seperate reporter. Liked the old look a lot better than the new.

The studio is alright - but the astons take the buiscuit. They are actually as large, if not larger, than Sky News 2001-2005 astons, and they are straight out of old-school CNN. Nobody has used mixed-case sans-serif italics for news astons since the 1980s, early 1990s max, and now is not the time to bring them back!

Does anyone have any screen shots of Claire on TV3 News?
