I am not seeking justice. The people (AKA the County Attorney) will.
So I take it that the 5 TV stations will also be charged for having all those helicopters in the air without regard for the consequences.
I'm sorry? These pilots know what they are doing. This is hardly the first time that stations send choppers to cover the news.
While the stations might need to think things over as to how they approach some things in the future, they cannot be held responsible.

:-(
They know what they are doing? How did they manage to collide into each other then?
If anything the heads of news need to take a long hard look at just how they go about things.

If the stations cannot be held responsible why would they need to "think things over as to how they approach some things in the future"

The stations could end up reviewing or changing some of their policies, but they broke no laws or FAA regulations, so they cannot be charged for anything (unless you know something we don't).

Why, thank you for your valuable contribution to the discussion of helicopter newsgathering.

Only a vocal minority believes in arming more people to prevent school shootings. A loud voice does not translate to more people.
And, you are off topic and insensitive. Come back when you mature.

Being legal is the lowest level everyone needs to attain. They are legal, I believe. Now, that does not mean they don't need to look things over.

Surely there is some sort of FAA regulation about not hitting other aircraft or hitting the ground uncontrollably .
There is no editorial reason why a single helicopter sending pictures to the 5 stations, each providing their own commentary couldn't be used, and still allow them to act on different angles of the story. Having 5 copters following 1 car is just ridiculous.

These choppers don't just cover breaking news. They cover other stuff as well, things that some TV stations do not want. It is impossible to coordinate.

Well, if two jetliners collide, the airlines are not charged either -- unless they broke the law. The poster I was replying to was arguing that the stations should be charged with something (he didn't say what) to teach them a lesson.
That may happen in the future; it's to early to tell. However, "having 5 copters following 1 car" is neither new nor unusual, whatever we may think of it. It has been standard operating procedure in many markets for a long time. Since this is the first such incident, it's difficult to predict what changes will be made. Not having the same person be both the pilot and the reporter is one possibility.
