The research also gave a boost to BBC journalism, describing the corporation as the most trusted brand overall. The affirmation comes 12 months after Lord Hutton described the BBC's editorial systems as "defective" and Alastair Campbell crowed about "unforgivable lying" within its journalism.

Sky News was the second most trusted TV news brand, followed by Channel 4 News then ITV.

Wonder why Five News wasn't included.

Anyway feel free to discuss - people it would seem, prefer the Beeb, or Sky's output to to that of ITV.

I have to take my hat off to Sky, for building up a news brand in less than 20 years, that is so highly trusted - moreso than ITV.

Perhaps the loss of ITN on screen could be a reason.

I've added a poll to see what forum members opinion is.

I agree that the lack of the ITN brand on ITV news has made it a little less official. In my eyes anyway.

I, myself prefer Sky News to them all.

Very interesting.

I was looking at a graph the other day from 1993.

It went: Crimewatch (!), ITN News at Ten, BBC Nine O'clock, Guardian, Times, Telegraph, Daily Mail, Sky News, Daily Mirror, and obviously the Sun at the bottom. I've missed a few in-between, but you get the point.

Quite amazing how ITV have entirely f*cked their entire news service in the space of ten years, and how Sky have achieved the exact opposite.

Very surprised to see Sky above Channel 4, though.

I would have thought it very difficult to clearly differentiate between "most trusted TV news source" and viewing habits. Few ordinary viewers are going to nominate (for example) Sky News as their most trusted broadcaster and then watch BBC news as their main source of programming. If news matters to you, you will naturally watch what you consider to be the most trustworthy and reliable programme. In that respect I would have thought viewing figures gave a reasonable guide to trustworthiness.

On the other hand I remember reading an article some years back that polled people on which news service they turn to in times of national crisis or very large news stories. An overwhelming majority said the BBC - but in many cases this response wasn't born out by viewing figures when it actually came to the crunch.

Bit of an odd response there. He has an animated signature. Give that man a coconut.
