A run-down of the US networks' plans from TVNewser:

Interestingly, apart from Morning Joe, MSNBC's coverage will be presented from New York rather than Washington. Looks like they're the only ones (including CBSN) not to be presenting on the ground.

Maybe they're trying to recoup the costs of their massive LED studio backdrop by cutting down on outside broadcasts and using the screens to take the presenters on location virtually instead. That's what they did with the conventions and the presidential debates last year.

While it would be nice for them to be on the ground it would really add nothing as everything is pooled and they'll still probably get ISO camera feeds through the network. They'll still have the same analysts from the ground that's covering the event for NBC. This type of event would also be more of a VOSOT than having the presenters in vision.

I'd imagine it could also be done for security concerns. The media has been harassed by Trump and his supporters at rallies. Broadcasting for MSNBC may be tricky.

It is a big change from Presidents Obama's in 2009 where they had a large portable studio set up on the mall.

I don't think they're cutting down on OB's as they've been broadcasting from the roof of their Bureau all week. (If you want to know it's the same location where ITV's election coverage originated from).

Well this is an interesting tweet from the BBC press team. Despite previous mentions in this thread it looks like they're promoting Katty Kay as the main host for the simulcast.

It'll be interesting to see how the broadcasters address the general tone, look and feel of the coverage. Obama's inauguration was given the pomp and sense of history it deserved. The NBC open below really captures this. I shudder to think what the open will be like for Trump...

Likely similar to this, not much difference.

Both Bush and Obama made mistakes when being made POTUS, wonder if Trump will.

I've heard many analysts this week is that it's mainly to show that it's to show the world that the most powerful nation can have a peaceful transition of power. I mean look at what's going on in Gambia right now.

The US doesn't have big military parades and pageantry - so one every four years is okay.

I think the official US Election result isn't actually published and mandated until a few weeks after the event.
It's just that the TV networks, do such a good job at collating the results, their pronouncement just a few hours after polls close is taken as the de-facto result ? Or is that an urban myth ?

Part in Part, The full result will not be rubber stamped until later in this year. All votes are counted by 1-2 weeks after the election, since its SO Big. If there isn't any auto recounts because of the 0.5% margins, its all done and dusted. ITs not until 5 weeks later in Mid December the Electoral vote are sorted out.

It does give a good show for television and the world over the course of two months, everyone still having a field day. I still like the British way Vote one day and your oot the next Very Happy
