So next Friday 20th January is the inauguaration. According to Radio Times, Katty Kay is anchoring BBC 1's coverage from 4pm, with Tom Bradby anchoring for ITV. Not sure who's anchoring for Sky.

Sticking with the BBC coverage though, whilst Katty Kay is a more than competent anchor for the event, previously wouldn't this have been a job for a face well known to UK audiences on BBC 1 and the NC, like Huw Edwards? I'm sure he's anchored the last few presidential inauguarations.

Have we really seen the end of the BBC flying out it's big names to cover big planned events such as this? Is there likely to be a less senior but more recognisable face anchoring NC coverage that day, like Jane Hill or Clive Myrie, or is Katty Kay likely to be anchoring coverage for World / NC / BBC 1 in a massive simulcast operation?
Will BBC 1 lose audience share to ITV by not having someone recognisable like Huw anchoring their coverage?

I'm only an occasonal visitor to these forums, so apologies if this has been discussed at length already, but this is the first time that I know of that a major planned news event like this has been covered by a World anchor for UK audiences and I guess is a sign of the BBC News cuts starting to show on screen.

I agree - cutting back on location hosting is sensible but you still expect Huw to be fronting events such as this, the most important Presidential Inauguration since the last one.

I sense a hint of sarcasm here 🤔 It doesn't have to be Huw, it could be anyone who's a 'familiar face' to UK viewers. And I'd say this Inauguaration is more of a newsworthy event than Obama's re-inauguaration in 2013 was.
As I pointed out, Katty Kay is a more than capable anchor however. You just never see her on the BBC's UK news output, apart from on Outside Source occasionally.

I guess it will be a full on simulcast across all BBC outlets, and I also expect it will still rate the highest on BBC1 even with an 'unknown' host.

While I'm surprised it's not Huw presenting, Katty is more than capable even if she's largely unknown to UK viewers.

Other than Katty who else could they have used out there other than Jon Sopel?

BBC news online says Katty Kay live at the Capitol with Huw Edwards and Sophie Raworth presenting.

That makes more sense, though Jon Sopel and Katty Kay would tick both boxes with hosts known to UK and BBC World audiences.

It's the first time that I know of that live coverage of a US presidential inaugaration is being broadcast on the ITV Network.

Jon Sopel is back in the UK, it appears. He was just on the balcony on OS.

Yes, he was also on last night's News at Six.
