OK, before any says it, I know there is a thread already set up about the Pope. But most of what that consists of is discussing the Pope's death and reaction from the media, news channels etc.
This thread is for you, the members of TV Forum, to have the opportunity to post your tributes and comments on the death of Pope John Paul II and any views you have on his years as the Pope.

You completely miss the point.

This is a forum about television presentation and this subject is not relevant. This belongs on somewhere like Metropol.

How do you manage to get everything so bloody wrong on this forum ?

Everyone on metropol was being so disrespectful (so I resigned).

Yes, it is very sad news that He has died, but better, as he is not suffering anymore.

well you may have more luck on a catholic website ... or have a trawl through bbc online, there are a few places for condolences on there. as shocking as it may seem to you, we are not interested in your thoughts about the popes death.

Well it obviosly means something to some people on here you shallow minded idiot. Just because you don't care it does not mean other people do not.

Of course there are some people on here who do care and are not Catholics so it may be inappropriate to post on a Catholic website.

It is obvious that people are insisting on being as disrespectful here as they are on Metropol, so I think it may be the best option if I resign from here as well.

I enjoy this forum but I will not be part of a community where my leader is not respected (at least if people do not like him they can just keep quiet, especially at a time like this).

It is no easy decision to make, I have enjoyed my time here, and wish to thank Asa and the moderators, who have banned the most disrespectful of people.

Thank you to all those who support my decision and goodbye.

Come back, Mike.

The place is just not the same without you. Rolling Eyes

With all due respect, I don't think this is the right place for a tribute page. If you're going to do that, then you need to allow the people who didn't agree with many of his more conservative views the chance to challenge them, and I'm not sure you would want that either. Aside from this, it has nothing to do with TV presentation or news coverage.

I am amazed at how this thread is running.

While I don't think this is the place to discuss the Pope's death (not including media coverage) I would not slag anyone off for creating it.

Many people are upset at the moment, and we should not fall out with each other!! I am not a Catholic or religious, but believe in respecting others.

I've just finished a shift on a newsdesk -covering this and I can say that people who I would not have imagined - have actually been deeply affected.

Life IS too short to fall out folks!!

So we don't see people falling out over this, can I suggest a compromise? How about using the BBC's tributes pages

Keep the tributes off here.

No one denies people are upset, and I respect people's beliefs, but this is the wrong place for tributes.

Good idea.

Without being disrespectful to anyone (or, at least, not intending to be), TV Forum is a place to discuss TV presentation only. When major news breaks, there tend to be threads discussing the unusual presentation caused by the event. In this case, the Pope's death has changed TV presentation somewhat, and this is what should be discussed. If you want to leave messages about the Pope, may I suggest using a dedicated website, such as the BBC, as Techy Peep mentioned.
