Stupid question then, If there is such a device that allows them to broadcast from anywhere with a 3G signal, why don't the BBC or Sky use such a device rather than satellite trucks? Any pictures I have seen on mainstream channels that have been 'via broadband' have been noticeably poorer picture quality. I wonder how much it is costing them to broadcast this.

I work for a broadcaster- we've tried them, they're not reliable. If thats what they are using then I'm very surprised its as stable as it has been. Radio use 3G a fair bit- a single mono channel over 3G is usually ok- but its the delay thats the problem and I wouldn't trust it with more than a single news report. There are diversity systems (some multi sim 3G systems can work in bonded or diversity mode) to give more reliable connections. Those 'via broadband' links tend to be very limited bandwidth over satellite (BGAN) or low capacity fixed lines.

Sat trucks give you a guaranteed end to end link. 3G can easily be turned off at the request of the police. Bam, you're off air. Sat trucks are here to stay- although there is a shift to using IP- because then you just need a big fat pipe to send everything around, rather than dedicated vision circuits.

Odd... The reports I've seen is that the Sony place is in Ealing, which is nowhere near Waltham Abbey.

From Google Maps, the building they were showing looks like this one to me :- http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=51.678397,-0.006008&spn=0,0.021887&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.678457,-0.006707&panoid=TYfdDnpbni5BabvVsZtULQ&cbp=12,50.25,,0,6

Looks like Sainsbury's rather than Sony to me Confused

That Singapore studio is hideous...

Indeed, only because they're trapped in their newsroom mind, West Midlands Police aren't letting them out...

Wow. Sangat TV are now taking live calls. Live to their car.

EDIT: I knew it was too good to last. Sangat TV have just lost the signal. This is the first time in several hours as far as I know though.

EDIT AGAIN: They have now switched to what is presumably their scheduled programming.

Some really bad timings on BBC NC. Second report cut off in the last hour to hit the timings to come back from a break on World.

Luquesa Borak on Sky News going into her own telephone interview she did with Gillian Joseph in the studio earlier this evening.

'That was my story of how I was trying to get into work'. Very good! No name aston on screen though. Very Happy
