Sky have just said that they've withdrawn their camera crews from the scene because they'd been subject of attacks, maybe the BBC have taken the same, probably wise decision.

Crikey I think the BBC News reporter just got hit - was it Andy

Yes, missiles hit the camera as they'd turned it around to focus on a sustained attack on a parked police car. Youths then approached the camera to try and block its view - presumably to ensure that their mates wouldn't end up on video that would end up being used to incriminate them letter. As the cameraman tried to relocate the camera, it appeared that he was being jostled; Andy Moore confronted one of those who were blocking the camera, and off camera, it sounded like Andy had been injured or pushed (an off-camera groan), at which point Deborah Mackenzie stepped in to confirm that they would be cutting away.

Previously, the camera position that they'd occupied had been at a reasonably safe distance from the focus of the disturbance, but with the police having effectively cordoned off the central disturbance zone, the more violent elements that had turned up purely to cause trouble clearly decided that they'd be better off shifting the focus of their violence outside of that cordon, and it ultimately reached the BBC's camera position and correspondent.

Bizarrely, they've dropped live coverage entirely now to go to 'British Olympic Dreams'.

Maybe they've cut away altogether since Andy got injured so he could get medical treatment maybe??

Perhaps, but I was referring to them having dropped live coverage entirely, not having dropped live footage from the scene. Clearly, the situation was far too dangerous for the team to maintain their position, but they've had a steady stream of eyewitness reports coming through for most of the evening, interviews with current and former police, statements from various parties (police, local MP, the Mayor of London); even if they didn't have any similar guests or statements available to go with live, I'm surprised they didn't stick the story by re-running an interview, re-reading a statement, or repeating earlier footage.

The situation is fluid and developing, and there's certainly enough material available to repeat without coverage becoming stale until they're able to re-establish a camera position on scene. There's a lot to report with many angles, and news and reactions coming in continuously; I appreciate that they couldn't maintain live video or coverage from Andy Moore at the scene, but suspending coverage entirely to go to a recorded programe strikes me as a poor decision.

Well I suppose we will find out at 2am if Andy Moore is all right or not, if they do a live link.

Is this a live or is it an older one from earlier? Don't blame them for clearing out actually.
