They are a good few floors up from where the shops that were looted are, which are near the front entrance. I was denied entry to the Mailbox frontage by security shortly before the looting took place, and got in at the side, where people started running up escalators towards the back of the building (at the back you can only exit on the top floor) to get away from trouble at the front. People dived into restaurants which locked their doors but the trouble never reached the back of the building and seems to have been contained on the ground floor.
The public area of BBC Birmingham will have been closed for some hours by then.
Incidentally - I'm surprised there's nothing on the BBC 159 page if the disturbance in Brum is close to/in the Mailbox.
