Meanwhile on the NC we've been told there'll be no business or sport "obviously".

Why did they bother trailing it at the TOTH then?

To give them something to fill the gap where the regions were doing their headlines?

To whoever mentioned that ITV should drop the local news, where does that leave Central who need to report on the incident in Birmingham?

Shame Central or BBC Birmingham couldn't opt out of network for longer than 5 minutes? (But there's always local radio!)

There is no trouble in Leeds, @bbclooknorth have retweeted this fact every few minutes for the past few hours to counteract all the other tweets trying to whip up trouble.

Al Jazeera are now reporting rioting in Leeds on their graphics.

How long has the Skycopter been refueling for?

Maybe they only have one crew, who are too tired to make another flight. It's the only reason I can think to explain them not sending it up again.

With two police helicopters in the area and two or three news helicopter, could it be that the police have requested less use of helicopters? Surely it is quite dangerous and hinders the police helicopters use of air space having so many news crews flying overhead too?

On BBC earlier they had a shot of three helicopters, all flying at different altitudes. Provided they're all in communication it shouldn't be a problem. When the two news choppers collided in America a few years ago it was mostly down to lack of communication and not knowing where each other was - something far easier at night. Co-ordination between the Sky & BBC 'copters shouldn't be too bad, since they're both based together.

BBC Birmingham on the NC now.

And apparently the Birmingham riots have come to BBC Birmingham; looting at the mailbox,

Yes, but why would they allow the BBC's helicoper (which was up in the air not long ago), but not Sky News'? The only fair way to limit the number of helicopers in the air over a specific site would be to insist on a pool helicoper that would provide images to all the broadcasters.

ITV had some good coverage, and great to see them touch on the days other stories too. But on nights like this they shouldn't bother with regional news and should have just had extended News at Ten coverage until 10.40pm.

There definitely is reason to extend the bulletin but the regional news is arguably more important than ever tonight with rumours of riots spreading across the country. Indeed arguably London should be opting out of the network to provided extended news coverage. This is going off topic a bit, but in the glory days of regional television were regions known to opt out for news specials/continuous coverage of breaking local events?

I haven't seen the BBC one in use for at least 45 mins. Maybe I missed it sorry, I thought that the BBCs had gone too.

There was definitely one in the air at the bottom of the hour (just before BBC WN went to WBR), and I believe I saw some live images after WBR at :45 as well.

As has been said, it seems there is a deliberate policy not to over play this story on the mainstream channels.

It doesn't usually take much for a BBC News Special on BBC1, we've had one for all kinds of light fluff before (I.e snow in the south of england) but there is no sign of anything like that on any channel tonight.
