First time tonight I've really watched any live coverage - I think it's both the lack of reasoning and the seemingly lack of power to stop it which makes it truly shocking, and the lack of common motive beyond the initial reaction to the shooting is seemingly making it difficult for the news to digest too.

Only the army IMO can halt this now and nip it in the bud.

There is no trouble in Leeds, @bbclooknorth have retweeted this fact every few minutes for the past few hours to counteract all the other tweets trying to whip up trouble.

WN has left BBC News at 10, and and Peter Dobbie is presenting from N8.

Al Jazeera still seem to have a helipcopter taking live pics. The glowing embers in Croydon viewed in the dark are quite haunting.

And the World Business Report is next (after a few live chopper shots).

EDIT Beaten to it, interesting to see that N8 gallery was able to cut back to the live chopper shot in Croydon complete with World style LIVE bug with London time.

On a bit of a side-track, apparently Sweden are now experiencing riots, which are being blamed on those in London.

Meanwhile on the NC we've been told there'll be no business or sport "obviously".

Do they have their own chopper (which would be really impressive) or is it some kind of a pool arrangement?

ITV had some good coverage, and great to see them touch on the days other stories too. But on nights like this they shouldn't bother with regional news and should have just had extended News at Ten coverage until 10.40pm.

Why did they bother trailing it at the TOTH then?
