Wonder what the BBC World viewers are making of this little lot?

It's something else now with Karen Gianonne....

Yup, that'll be UK Report. The short headline sequence at 1am gave it away.

Crikey I think the BBC News reporter just got hit - was it Andy Moore, it sounded like he was in some form of stress as the cameracrew got mobbed again, although he did try confronting one of the people who was causing the trouble which was probably not the best move!

And it should continue next with One Square Mile. Will they have a headline sequence at the bottom of the hour?

Sorry, had the sound turned down!

Pity Snoddy's off for a few weeks!

I didn't see the incident itself, but there did seem to be a lot of people waving behind the reporter about half an hour ago.

Yes, missiles hit the camera as they'd turned it around to focus on a sustained attack on a parked police car. Youths then approached the camera to try and block its view - presumably to ensure that their mates wouldn't end up on video that would end up being used to incriminate them letter. As the cameraman tried to relocate the camera, it appeared that he was being jostled; Andy Moore confronted one of those who were blocking the camera, and off camera, it sounded like Andy had been injured or pushed (an off-camera groan), at which point Deborah Mackenzie stepped in to confirm that they would be cutting away.

Previously, the camera position that they'd occupied had been at a reasonably safe distance from the focus of the disturbance, but with the police having effectively cordoned off the central disturbance zone, the more violent elements that had turned up purely to cause trouble clearly decided that they'd be better off shifting the focus of their violence outside of that cordon, and it ultimately reached the BBC's camera position and correspondent.

Bizarrely, they've dropped live coverage entirely now to go to 'British Olympic Dreams'.

I believe World News opted out at 0110.

Maybe they've cut away altogether since Andy got injured so he could get medical treatment maybe??

I didn't see the reporter get attacked although he did say he was being pushed. I think they attacked the camera and then the BBC cut away because it was coming up to 01:30 and presumably BBC World were joining them.

What these idiots don't realise is that instead of pushing the camera and standing in front of it, they could just attack or even rock the satellite truck which can clearly be seen a few metres away from the camera position.

No live pictures from Sky or BBC currently. Maybe those idiots did realise after all.

From what I saw, some rioters started damaging a Police Car parked just in front of the BBC News team (was a brand new 11 plate car as well), they started showing it Live and once some of the protesters realiised they were being filmed, took acception to it and one knocked the camera off the tripod, whilst the cameraman was trying to sort the camera out, another individual tried to obstruct Andy Moore from reporting, he challenged the individual and the camera man appeared to be pushed over, he then started moving away and that's when it sounded like Andy Moore was in some form of stress as he was shouting.

Don't the BBC/Sky bring any form of security with them when attending riot situations or do they rely on the Police to 'look after them'.

It appears Sky and the BBC have stopped Lives from the ground, possibly as one person has suggested that the satellite trucks have been attacked. Me think the Sky Copter with its Gigabit receiver would be useful in this situation!

This would be a very bad decision if it is true. No one wants to see BBC staff getting injured but cutting away to show some Olympic nonsense isn't going to help those staff members on the ground. Sure, give them time to move to a safer position and assess the situation or even get medical treatment if required, but keep reporting the story with the help of eyewitnesses (BBC London have plenty for them to use) and footage from earlier.

I agree its very bad that they've opted away, I really hope that Andy Moore and the Cameraman are OK.
