Also agree with the earlier sentiments that Sky might have been better keeping JT on air a bit longer, Ashish isn't particularly impressive as a presenter.
I get the feeling Sky at least (not sure about the BBC) aren't treating this as exceptional breaking news. They're still having regular ad breaks, featuring a Paper Review and switching anchors on the hour. Absolute non-stop coverage hasn't been used for these riots really.
Yes, they no longer seem to do the open ended breaking news coverage with no adverts. I suppose they may have taken the attitude that they can't catch up with the BBC in ratings terms so they may as well show commercials every 20 mins or so even if there is breaking news.
From Sky's Alistair Bunkall,

My colleague @Stone_SkyNews and I just got chased. Mark hit by a car but ok
It's funny how the news channels are running continuous coverage but the terrestrials are keeping it very low key. BBC News at 10 and ITV News at Ten have both already moved on to 'the rest of the day's news'

And because it's an international story (market slump) BBC World stays with the 10
There is now twitter feeds saying Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds and Liverpool has riots
a) a lot of it is drivel attempting to cause riots
and
b) it's not relevant in this forum
B: I do get the point but, but there is strong suggests there is some unress in Leeds and some of the nation newspaper such as the Guardian's a has somehow confirming this. Are some of the tv stations trying to sweep this under the carpet to stop the problems spreading?

BBC mentioned hours ago that there were disturbances in Birmingham city centre and Chapeltown, Leeds.
I'm inside Sheffield City Centre, and there's no signs of rioting, or even an enhanced Police presence, so I'd guess the rumours about here are probably incorrect.
