The bits I didn't know about Tony as I'm not from the North West was how he interacted with the public and the banter off-air with his colleagues. The ribbing of Ann O'Connor for mucking up a PTC comes over as typical Tony.
The chemistry between Tony and Lucy from day 1 proved straight away that the duo were going to be a success, you don't last 17 years together working nightly if you don't get on. Stewart White and Susie Fowler-Watt on Look East are another example of how a duo just gels and comes over natural.
I also liked that off-camera crew members were also given the opportunity to pay their own tributes to Tony at the end of the programme.

Yes, you’re right. The tribute programme was very well done and, although I never got to see him regularly on television, that 30mins last night made me feel like I’d been watching him for years. He was clearly a much-loved member of the team.
Also notable that they played the ending of what was to become his final bulletin, where he closed with a simple “Ta-ra” and a big smile.
From what I learned last night, that was just typical Tony.
I loved that clip of Lucy talking to him at the desk just ahead of his first broadcast - so glad someone kept hold of this little off-screen moments which were probably used as much tonight as his on screen achievements.
