Tony Morris has died

Obviously colleagues will have known of his death for a couple of days but the number of films, clips and articles which seem to come out very quickly after the news was made public show Granada have already put a lot of thought into the tributes.

RIP the late great Tony Morris. Presenter for 17 Years on Granada Reports. Very professional but caring and friendly too. I met him in 2017 after the Arena Bombing.

Thoughts and Prayers are with his two daughters and other family as well as his family at both ITV Granada and BBC North West.

We will miss you.

Met him briefly at Anfield in 2017, when I asked for a selfie. Was always a professional presenter. Presented the really useful show when he was at bbc north west.

Going by the message from his daughters he had been in a hospice so they'd have known what was to come for a while

Whenever I've been able to watch GR, I always hoped Tony would be on the main bulletin.

A fab broadcaster who along with his colleague Lucy Meacock is up there with the likes of Fred Dinenage, Sally Taylor, Harry Gration and Bob Warman as one of regional TV's legends on and off screen.

Very shocked and sad to hear of the death of Tony Morris.

When Tony Morris moved from NWT to Granada, was it to replace Tony Wilson who also sadly passed away?

With the BBC NWT about to be single presented permanently, I wonder if Granada will follow suit with just Lucy Meacock?

Sad news. Would be nice if someone could please upload the tribute programme here tonight for those of us not in the region or who don’t have access to the regions on Sky.

Tony only hosted his last Granada Reports a few weeks ago.

The latest clip of him on YouTube presenting is dated 10th June, but his actual last edition may have been after this.



Indeed of course Tony hosted the first edition of Granada Reports from MediaCityUK on Sunday 24th March 2013.

What shocking and absolutely terrible news. I really liked Tony - I remember him first appearing on NWT getting on for 20 years ago and then fairly quickly moving to pair up with Lucy Meacock at Granada. A very, very nice broadcaster to watch. He and Lucy became quite a duo and he, along with Dianne Oxberry, will be sorely missed here in the north west.

Does anyone else recall that he appeared as a newscaster on ITV News at ITN one weekend back in about 2007? Like Lucy, they must have been trying him out at a national level but, for whatever reason, it didn't work out in the end. But he remained something of a legend to north west audiences. Granada Reports won't be the same without him.

Beautiful tribute programme tonight. Poor Lucy managed to hold it together until the last few seconds. They did a brilliant job at showing how much of a genuinely nice bloke he seemed to be.
