62 is no age to die in these modern times, I'm just surprised at how sudden the whole thing was. You look at how seriously he took his politics and some of the fly by night politicians that we are lumbered with now; it's a sad day.

News that Lord Banks has died isn't that sudden.
The news of the stroke, which broke around the same time as Charles Kennedy's statement yesterday was the bigger shock.

Indeed, very sad news.
Shocking at that age especially for someone so fit and healthy too. In fact it was very similar to what happened to his colleague Robin Cook

Interesting, no "BREAKING NEWS" astons on any of the news channels - or Sky Sports News, and I don't suppose the news has been broken on any of the main channels yet?

Yes, it was announced from about 8:15. Both news channels were 'Breaking News' when I watched them half an hour ago

Quite shocking news when I first heard of his predicament.
On a TV presentation point I think over recent weeks we've noticed an unnerving change in the way the illnesses of public figures are reported, with channels seemingly unwilling to wait until they actually die before they get the obituaries out and consider the impact.

Oh right, well they weren't there when I checked a few minutes ago - News 24 were in a programme and Sky News/Sky Sports News were carrying on as normal....

To be honest, it can't be breaking news all evening. By definition it's only breaking news when it breaks!
