He handed me the chair he'd been sitting on a couple of minutes before he collapsed.
So it was your fault, if he'd still been sitting down he wouldn't have collapsed

If it is the DoE and not the Queen, I wonder if all those photos of him with prostitutes will come out now. Probably not.
Out of interest, whilst we're speculating, why is it that Prince Phillip is Prince Phillip and not King Phillip?

Common sense suggests that the only person suitable for such a widespread show of respect would be the Monarch.
Similarly, the arrangements required to begin a period of Official Mourning would likely delay an announcement in a way we may be seeing on screen.
There is also a distinct (and appropriate) silence from some well know BBC insiders ere.
The preponderance of evidence suggests that at the very least a *senior* Royal has died.

Actualy, Gavin, you make a very strong point there. There would NOT be an announcement until the official mourning plans had been arranged.
I think we can rule out the possibility of a polititian therefore, and it looks like a royal, and again I regret to speculate but it is either one of the Queen's children (seems unlikely, not too much morning unless it was Charles), the Queen herself (which seems unlikely, given the age of her mother when she died),or the D of E.

He apologised for stealing my* chair to watch Tony Blair's speech, actually...
(* In fact it was my boss's dining room chair from IKEA, but that's another matter. And Cherie Blair had been sitting in the same chair earlier in the day.)

I would have thought that if the broadcaster knew what was going on and possibly a time when the embargo was lifted they would not do they usual "and at nine ....."
Sorry if the post seemed obvious and irrelevant, I am as intrigued as the rest of you and am trying to work out the situation like the other members.

I'm really not sure whether to read too much into this, but if this is and it is increasingly looking like the death of a royal. The D o E would therefore be a high probability.

That is custom, Yes.
