Sorry, another question.......who would actually know about the story, would a journalist monitoring wires report it to a senior colleague who would in turn report it to someone even senior.

I would guess those who have been "selected" so to speak, although this is a newsroom and the phrase "wildfire" is never more suitable apt.

Unlikely that they would be told what the story is. An embargo is an embargo.

Of course they would be told. How else could they prepare background info and questions for interviews etc?

An embargo is to restrict broadcast/publication of news. The prior notice gives broadcasters/newspapers time to get their coverage together. Not much good if the people who will break the news and front the subsequent coverage don't know what the story is!

Maybe they're just using the story about George Best to cover up anything major that has happened?

I'd expect anything now to be announced probably tomorrow morning if anything HAS indeed happened - and BBC ONE will probably introduce the news with Hip Hop or something like that (won't be the bouncy puddings!)

I think it's a coincidence, and I think this because on Nemone's Dream Ticket on BBC 6 Music we can choose between a live session of the Chemical Brothers and...yes!....The Sex Pistols. You just wouldn't play them if a royal had died!

a couple of pages ago someone was asking about enps.. I've got it ..theres nothing of interest on it.... and no standbys on the 10 running order that would suggest anything big..

Well as someone said before, This does look like a terrible "Anti- Climax".

If there is going to be any (if at all) major announcement now I'd expect it to happen tomorrow morning now.

And actually regardless of whether any news does break, This has been a great discussion, really good to see TVF so alive for a change.
