All of Tonight's Anchors Wearing Black - All Channels

Is there an announcement on the way tonight? (October 2005)

I have posted this on the various relevant seperate threads, but it was becoming too hard to jump around.

All anchors on all news output tonight appear to be in obit black. Anyone know what's going on? Perhaps a freaky coincidence, but its very bizarre:

Andrew Wilson and Kay Burley on Sky News (Wilson even had a black tie on). Sophie Raworth and Bill Turnbull on BBC Six. Mary Nightingale and Mark Austin on ITN 6.30. Now Anna Botting on Sky news. And even Kirsty Young over on Five.

This is bizarre if it is a coincidence.

Mods - throw this thread in the bin tomorrow if nothing happens. But maybe the news organisations know something that we don't.

It's the kind of thing they'd not usually be able to even give any hint of, before an embargo was lifted, though.

Odd. Very odd.

Edit - add Felicity Barr to the list from the ITN News Channel. Can anyone remember if Jane Hill on the One had black on?

I think something has happened but can't be announced yet...I'm sorry but there is too much of a coincidence here.

I guess it's only really eagle-eyed tv enthusiasts who're gonna even notice the dress code today - well, for now at least. Times like this I love having Sky though... Confused

when the Queen dies, will the BBC go into rolling news for a week, no programmes, schools closed for days, ect

I maintain that Best simply isn;t in any way major wnough to warrant full obit dress. Little other than the Royals and Blair would, I don't suppose.

Mr Charles "I plotted Diana's death".... ooops sorry.... she was killed in such a tragic incident..... anyway, on a more somber note... some one has died... who ever it is... they have to announce it soon....

Unfortunately, no. They don't have to do any such thing. Especially *if* anyone major has expired, they can take as long as they like until the embargo gets lifted. Until all necessary plans are in place, they can keep Joe Public completely in the dark for as long as they see fit.
