The beauty of Radio 4 is how varied it is, you have things like Today mixed in with things like Front Row or The Archers. I’m not sure if the listener who likes that would listen to Times Radio in its entirety

Talk Radio has gone DAB+ only to accommodate Times Radio on SDL.

I don’t listen to radio very often, instead spending a large amount of time listening to podcasts and getting news across liberal social media. If I do listen to radio it’s normally 5Live but this is an enticing offering and I’ll be giving it a go tomorrow!

I just hope I don’t spend half my morning listening to advertisers!

Isn't it ad free?

How does that work in commercial radio? Confused

AFAIK, it's being financed by The Times (newspaper). I wouldn't be surprised if either advertising or sponsorship ends up making it's way onto the station once it's become more established.

It's going to have sponsorship. The same as its sister station Virgin does for its breakfast show, which is also ad free. How that'll work out for a whole station rather than one programme though remains to be seen

Just been looking in the comments below. Seems like some are put off by the reference to The Times, and the association with Murdoch. Do we think that this link could be damaging to the station, or am I giving too much attention to social media nutcases?

Time shall tell!!

The Times newspaper doesn’t have the same political perspective and force as other Murdoch enterprises, though does it! For example the Sun.

it will be interesting to see what listening figures etc they get especially when going up against LBC, talkRadio and 5 live.

I think connection to The Times is a positive one, whatever you think of it, it still has the reputation as being the 'paper of record'

They're going for the Radio 4 audience but I think if it's successful it will be LBC that loses out to it. It's a very different proposition to Radio 4 with long-form presenter led programmes.

If Times Radio works I'm sure they'll change Talk Radio into 'The Sun Radio' and give that idea another go

I do like that Times Radio won't be just news and politics with Mariella Frostup's show with focuses on arts and culture, that's an area which isn't covered by speech radio at the moment apart from Radio 4.
