Apologies for regurgitating the thread, but after I saw Jane & Dermot on the Six on Monday (perfect team!), I decided to make another presenter line up, promoting some and demoting others. I've tried to put everyone where I feel their talents suit best:

BBC One

Breakfast

A newsier Breakfast broadcast from BBC News 24’s studio, using the main desk from the TOTH, moving to the sport area (with Breakfast sofa) for “fluffier items”. Summaries from the left-hand area which has been re-vamped with a small desk and seat (like weekend Sportsday)

Presented by:
Sophie Raworth & Bill Turnbull (Mon to Thu)
Susannah Reid & Simon McCoy (Fri to Sun)

Summaries read by:
Moira Stuart (Mon to Wed)
Gillian Joseph (Thu/Fri)

One O’Clock News (1300-1345)

A look at the day’s developing stories, with a regional update from 1325-1335. The final ten minutes would concentrate on the day’s main story.

Presented by:
Sian Williams (Mon to Thu)
Darren Jordon (Fri)

Six O’Clock News (1800-1900)

A bulletin with a more domestic slant. Regional news from 1825-1850. The last ten minutes focuses on the main story.

Presented by:
Dermot Murnaghan & Jane Hill (Mon-Fri)

Ten O’Clock News (2200-2300)

Focussing on the day’s stories in detail, also including more international news. Regional update from 2235-2250, followed by an in-depth round up.

Presented by:
Huw Edwards (Mon-Thu)
George Alagiah (Fri)

Weekends

Saturday (approx. 1200, 1700, 2230): Darren Jordon
Sunday (new Marr programme summaries/Politics Show summary): Moira Stuart
Sunday (approx. 1935, 2200): Philip Hayton

Note: George Alagiah would also present “The World” (Mon-Wed). Peter Sissons would present it Thu/Fri.

Also: Anna Ford retires.
Fiona Bruce leaves to concentrate on Current Affairs output & Crimewatch.
Natasha Kaplinsky leaves for “entertainment” programming.

BBC News 24

0600-0900: Breakfast (Mon-Sun)
0900-0930: BBC News from BBC World live simulcast (Mon-Fri)
0930-1300: Tim Willcox & Kate Silverton (Mon–Fri)
1300-1600: Adrian Finighan & Matthew Amroliwala (Mon-Fri)
1600-1900: Jon Sopel & Louise Minchin (Mon-Thu) [Julian Worricker on Fri]
1900-2000: “Around the World” (or something of the sort)
An internationally focused bulletin presented by Chris Eakin & Manisha Tank.
2000-2200: Chris Eakin & Manisha Tank (Mon-Thu)
2200-0100: Al Yates (Mon-Thu)
0100-0500: Karin Giannone (Mon-Thu)
0500-0600: TWT (Mon-Fri)

0900-1200: Carrie Gracie (Sat/Sun)
1200-1600: Peter Dobbie & Joanna Gosling (Sat/Sun)
1600-1900: Philip Hayton (Sat)/Peter Sissons (Sun)
1900-2200: Chris Lowe & Gwenan Edwards (Fri-Sun)
2200-0100: Ben Brown (Fri-Sun). He would also continue with reporting duties.
0100-0600: Liz Pike (Fri-Sun) ??!
I really couldn’t think of anyone else, but at least it would keep her off our screens during the day!!! Maybe you have better suggestions for this slot? And any other comments on this schedule?

I like your idea of bringing Manisha Tank into the newscasters seat. Having watched her alongside Adrian Finighan this morning on TWT, I concluded that they were an excellent team!

I also like your idea of having Sissons on The World. He is good for that sort of thing.

Hill and Murnaghan - agree with that one as well. Sounds like a good pairing, although I never get to see either really.

The idea that I strongly dislike is the possibility of pairing Adrian Finighan alongside the dreary Amroliwala. Of course, if you're going to pair Mathew with anyone, is should be someone who has a bit of life and watchability. Finighan certainly fits that bill.

Amroliwala is nothing short of boring and tedious, with a whining voice that reminds me of an old auntie of mine!

I would stick him away out of the way doing the piddling summaries on Breakfast, and put Moira on alongside Finighan in the slot you had earmarked.

Otherwise, Moira would be good alongside Dermot on the Six?????????????????

I see your point, but he's not too bad, well, the BBC obviously like him (considering he gets to do the weekend summaries sometimes)! And, you never know, Adrian might liven him up a bit! Very Happy

I never thought of Moira, agreed she is very good, and I personally wouldn't mind having her present on N24, but the 'proper journalist' argument may cause problems at the Beeb (despite the fact she used to present on N24!) Consistency, bah! Rolling Eyes

One bone I would pick with this schedule, although small is that Breakfast should not be broadcast on News 24. Why not have The World Today which is already broadcast on BBC World at the same time... Something like this.

Ideas for Breakfasts replacement posted:

05:00-09:00 The World Today
09:00-01:00 Regular BBC News 24.

I think this would solve two problems, increasing the amount of international news carried by the channel and secondly offering wider choice and diversity to the audience, rather than merly repeating something UK audiences can already see.

True. I'm not a fan of Breakfast in its current form, hence why I wanted to "news it up" a bit, but TWT would probably be an acceptable (if not preferrable) replacement.

An interesting line-up which, on the whole, I agree with. Dermot and Jane would work well on the six, as they did on Monday.
One presenter I've noticed you've missed off is Maxine Mawhinney. Would she get a slot or would you get rid of her entirely?
One other point is that would there still be a Weekend 24 and if so will there be any changes to it. I suggest making it an hour of international news with seperate titles. At the moment it is a cross between Breakfast on a weekend and a normal news 24 bulletin.

Actually, I forgot about her! Not surprising considering she's hardly on! Laughing She'd probably just go, I'm not a fan of her, anyway. Or maybe she could replace Liz Pike? Very Happy

Yes, I agree on that. Breakfast, in any form, should be newsier, and I would like to see more international news on the channel. Perhaps TWT could extend to seven days a week? That could solve the problem, thus following the pattern suggested by a previous poster where it replaces Breakfast on N24, while Breakfast contines on ONE/TWO.

After watching this morning's Breakfast I'd say that Kate Silverton could work on Breakfast as she came across as authorative when covering the breaking news yet totally relaxed during the entertainment section. I'd say move Natasha to the six (considering she's all ready going), Sian on Breakfast over the weekends (until Susanna Reid returns) and Kate on weekdays. Perhaps Kate could present with Jon Sopel who will work Monday to Thursday anyway when he presents the new politics show.

Why is Carrie Gracie on so little theses days ... has she been demoted as I remembershe used to do the evenings with Gavin Esler ...such a shame

Carrie Gracie can often be found on World Service radio - they have a show similar in content to Hardtalk. Has also combined The World Tonight on Radio 4 with News 24 duties, though I haven't heard her there recently.

Having just watched Adrian Finighan on World last night, I continue to be immensely impressed at just how good he is and how much connectivity he generates with the viewer. He is an engaging anchor with a well balanced personality, serious when needed and humorous at appropriate times.

Although not known to terrestrial viewers on BBC1, Adrian would be a superb choice as anchor of the Ten.

He would also be an equally good choice alongside Moira on the Six.

Come on BBC News - promote Adrian!!!

Have to admit James from what I've seen of Adrian he seems an excellent choice for promotion, Him and Mishal. Both are IMO under used on World. Definatly my choice for promotion.
