Andrew:
Doesn't matter how old a thread is. I am sure the entire point of new members is that they bring fresh ideas to the forum. There is nothing wrong in that. Your post above is, therefore, a thousand times more pointless than the "new member's" post.
Dr. Sigamund Whatever your name is:
There is a continuing theme in almost all of the posts that you make, and most of them appear to be bordering on the slanderous, pointless and downright rude and despicable. Your "suggestions" above with regard to Mr. Owen Thomas of ITN are potentially libelous. Can one of the moderators PLEASE ban this guy and get him away from here. His posts and crazy comments add no value whatsoever to the whole point of The Newsroom - i.e. objective and constructive comments about TV News presentation.
Regarding Martin Giessler of ITN Scotland:
When living in the UK, I recall Martin starting off as a junior reporter on Scotland Today, covering minor stories, before eventually graduating onto co-presentation of the main bulletins and lunchtime bulletins alongside the likes of Angus Simpson, Shereen Nanjiani, Kirsty Young and Viv Lumsden. He came across as a very capable - if sometimes too enthusiastic - presenter and reporter. He disappeared for a few years and joined Sky Sports Scotland, before returning to STV.
His "promotion" to ITN's Scotland Correspondent was somewhat a surprise at the time, as he was still somewhat young and lacked experience. However, his predecessor (Linda Kennedy - another former Scotland Today reporter) was also not suited to the ITN role, so Giessler was bound to provide an improvement on that.
I have noted him gradually developing into a very capable correspondent, and thought that his reports from the Tsunami affected regions were very good and well balanced. He would - IMO - make a good choice for ITN National News presentation, perhaps on the NC as opposed to ITV1 though. Or would have been suited to Five news, had it still been in the ITN stable.
