Have noticed of late that there are several anchors / newscasters / presenters on TV News who are very much under-used, despite the fact that they are excellent in the seat.

We all know that there are numerous reasons for this (contractual / personal / family, etc....), and that there are hundreds of similar comments that we have all made, which are scattered across the boards on this forum, but I am sure we could bring together under one banner all of our "unsung heroes" who we think should gain a little more exposure. Mine are:

Juliette Foster - Sky News.
She is, very simply, truly excellent.

Adrian Finighan - BBC World.
Affable. Competent. Excellent delivery.

Ralitsa Vassileva - CNN.
Hardly ever used. Only pops up ocassionally. Yet, is superbly competent and commanding.

Though I wouldn't like News 24 losing her, Jane Hill is excellent and to me should be vying with Huw Edwards to be the 'face of BBC News'.

I'd move Fiona off to concentrate on current affairs, replace her with Jane and get Kate Silverton to take over from Jane at N24.

As "BBC World" has said Adrian Finigan does seem slighty wasted over on BBC World.

Moira is totally wasted, we instead have a gooby, nickers go easy thing. She really should be used more, shes an excellent member.

And what ever happened to Micheal Burke? He was supposed to stay on at the Ten for a while longer, but so far he appears to have vanished.

And finally (deep breath) Eddie Mair, He presented Newsnight once - Simply put why is he not still there?

Oh and Marvin the giant BBC News hamster, he is totally wasted.

Over the years, I've noticed a fair few people on this forum put "loose" or ("loosing" - which isn't even a real word) when they actually mean "lose" (or "losing")

Dictionary:
Loose - opposite of tight
Lose - opposite of gain

Don't jump on my back, people - My intention is helpfulness, rather than "having a go at" people.

Eddie Mair is currently presenting PM on Radio 4, and is a regular co-presenter of The 7 O'Clock News on BBC Three.

Eddie is great - I hope that the Beeb appreciate him. He's exactly the kind of presenter who they could use to attract younger audiences to the news. BBC Three News gives him a chance to show his humour, but PM shows his wide knowledge of politics. It would be good to see him on television more (maybe BBC One), but I've heard suggestions that he is being groomed to replace John Humphrys on the Today Programme when he retires. Eddie definitely deserves promotion - he shows that the news doesn't have to be humourless.

Eddie has left BBC3 news, although you both seem not to have noticed.

A survey of radio big-wigs published in the Radio Times this week puts him as the fifth most powerful person on the radio.

On a related point - for those newsreaders that are off the air for perhaps a few days or even weeks at a time, what exactly do they do?!

Obviously some read on radio too, but for most, do they just stay at home? Or do shift/secondary newsreaders have other jobs within their respective organisations, or are they exclusively newsreaders?

Has he left for good? I know that Paddy is the full-time presenter, but I thought that Eddie was the male presenter for when Paddy is on holiday .

I suppose it depends what you mean by left. Going from five days a week, to the odd holiday cover is what I'd term 'left'. And who can blame him? PM five days a week is a big commitment.

I was watching CNN the other night, and the on duty anchor was Fiounnala Sweeney.

Sitting behind her in the newsroom, hammering away on a computer keyboard, was fellow anchor, Becky Anderson, who did not appear on screen at all that night.

So, my guess is that off-duty newscasters are assigned office duties / production duties / something......
