Possibly a first for BBC Three News - Paddy O'Connell is presenting from on location at Warren Street, with Sevi in the studio.

Nope not a first. Paddy presented both 7th July and 8th July on location from Central London near the site of one of the tube or bus bombs.

In the past BBC Three News (either The News Show or The Seven O'Clock News) has been co-presented from outside the studio a number of times. Eddie Mair presented from party conferences, and Ben McCarthy presented live from Westminster on a number of occasions. Manoush Zomorodi, the BBC Three New York reporter, co-presented the show from New York in the week of the US presidential elections.

Heard a rumour that the person who was arrested live on TV at gunpoint has been released without charge. Is that true? If it is, I would be furious if I was that guy, terrorist attack or not. I did feel a bit uneasy seeing the TV pics of it, are there any rules surrounding it?

This is true; he was an innocent bystander.

I noticed this time, FOX News was using the UK feed of Sky News, with the clock (and I suppose the ticker too, but it was covered by the FOX news graphics) rather than the international feed - strange.

as usual i prefer trawling around the american sites. nothing intersting but MSNBC's back catalogue of coverage is good where the woman says MI5 have not been very good while the shot shows MI6's building.

bit of a dull day really. i'll get back to big brother i think

I saw this too - they used the UK feed for the first attacks as well, did they not?

The early footage of himm being arrested on News 24 didn't show his face, as he was facing away from the camera. The only shot - a still - which showed his face was broadcast with a large black blob obscuring his identity. The pundit in the studio was very clear to say that there was no evidence that he was anything more than an innocent bystander

It was fairly obvious who he was though...... it was The Artist Formally Known as Prince Laughing

I'm sure I - like many others - want to know...

Today Sky News reported:

1/ A nail bomb blast at Warren Street
2/ A suspect unloading a weapon or gunfire on the tube at Warren Street St and Oval Station
3/ A bus "blown apart", in their words, in Hackney

Can anyone tell me if Sky's apologised for such hysterically inaccurate reporting?

Or have they just soldiered on regardless?

News is competitive; when each channel receives any kind of information, statement, rumour or otherwise they will report it. A fortnight ago they were all going on about more bombs then there actually were, and "a shooting of a suicide bomber at Canary Wharf".

Usually however, they would say "there are unconfirmed reports..." or something like that when reporting issues such as the points you've listed above until they obtain pictures or evidence as to not mislead the viewer.

Yep - on July 7th Sky reported "The army are on the streets in Covent Garden" apparently - because someone had seen people in military uniform in Covent Garden.

Pity they were involved in the WWII 1945 60th anniversary stuff - and nothing to do with the bombings.

Sky repeated the Nail bomb reports (which I think came from a source within TfL according to the wires) - I think News 24 were a bit more circumspect.

Actually, let's be clear about this: Sky was the real champion of the alleged shooting of a suicide bomber at Canary Wharf; they picked that one up and ran with it. ITV News very uncertainly mentioned it once or twice, but were very quick to retract that when it became clear that it was pure boIIocks. Having stuck with the coverage on N24 for most of that afternoon, I don't recall hearing any mention of that until after it had been confirmed at one of the police news conferences that it was false, and even then it was as a reference to the earlier incorrect speculations that had been flying about during the day - including the reports of more bombs that the BBC also reported throughout that day.

Best Scaremonger Award on 7 July undoubtedly goes to Capital Radio who were without a doubt absolutely fúcking awful. Every crumb of idle speculation was broadcast as fact, every rumour passed on as gospel truth. Throughout the day, Tottenham Court Road was evacuated, there was an explosion on a bus in Kensington, and the situation in Croydon (where there was a suspect package and a small area was cordoned off by police) was wildly exaggerated to describe the complete evacuation of Croydon town centre and the "dramatic" evacuation of East Croydon Station (which was indeed closed as a security precaution rather than as a result of any specific threat or package). Oh, and according to them, there were two snipers at Canary Wharf amid "scenes of chaos and panic" and multiple shots were fired. Those listening to Capital Radio on the day could have been forgiven for thinking the end of the world itself was upon us.

Sky were nowhere near as bad as that though, thank god.

In the interest of "fair and balanced" reporting, I should probably mention that News 24, like everyone else, went along with the "dummy nail bomb" reports for a couple of hours before eventually going to town on questioning what a ridiculous concept that was.
