BBC Weather has now added a festive 'touch' to their graphics, as they do every year. This year, they've decided to use a snowman!

ITV and the Met Office should have twigged by now that three permanent weather forecasters can not do all year round. Sure, they get temporary relief forecasters but we sure need to see more permanent ITV Weather Forecasters to give Martyn Davies and Becky Mantin some time off! Sian Lloyd is not in there because it seems she has plenty of time off. Personally, I am not too keen on Becky "Allo there" Martin but I like Sian and Martyn. One last thing... an update is needed for the ITV Weather map! I nominate the 1989-1994 look to be revived!

why not?
As they only have one forecaster per day this means they only have to work on average a third of the week

I think Martyn D does an amazing job, bearing in mind he is a regular on ITV Meridian's forecasts. "Smooth Martyn" (as Fred Dineage calls him) is a legend in my opinion! Smile

I agree that Martyn and Sian are the best that ITV have to offer.

Perhaps they should do something to tempt John Hammond back to ITV?!

How is that an update ?

Stop living in the past, ITN branding onscreen has gone, the 89-94 map has gone, get over it!

It does appear that I am living in the past, but all that I was merely mentioning that the look ITV Weather had between 1989-1994 could be modified into the modern day weather map, quite possibly. But, on reflection, it might not look right.

And from what was mentioned about ITN, I was only trying to put my point across that ITN should have more of a prominent appearance e.g. at the beginning and maybe on reporter sign-offs.

Why should it?

I seem to have irritated quite a few people on this:
The bit about ITV Weather retaining its old look was meant as a joke but completely failed. I should stop with my 'jokes'.
Concerning ITN, I was only mentioning that it seems odd that it took 44 years for a name change. But after some answers why, I completely understood and, if you noticed, I have stopped referencing to it. Plus, it took 46 years for it to be ITN [on ITV1] to be reserved only for the ending. After reasoning, I acknowledge why ITV has renamed it but I still think it was wrong for ITV to do it.
I hope that has put the nail into the coffin about my nostalgia as I was only comparing things from that point to now and I was only attempting to put my point across because this website is a forum.

He does have a point on the weather graphics though - the current ITV ones are hideous compared to older ones. Even the 'curvy swishy modern' look they had in 2001 was much better than the MS Paint offering they've had for the past two years.

ITV's northern regions were today treated to Mary Christmas doing the local weather

Noticed the lovely Laura on BBC 1 about 1355 today.

What shift was she doing on the NC?

I called in the 20 year old nephew.

'Look at this cute thing on the telly?'

He replied by mumbling something about putting her in a cupboard for his use!
