Just saw Philip Avery doing the weather on the News Channel. Thought he was supposed to be part of last years big Weather cull that got rid of Schaf, Corbett and McElwee?!
Though saying that I saw Corbett on the News Channel earlier in the week. They had him talking via Phone in New Zealand talking about the weather down there I presume.

He was one of the people moved, and this is the first time he's been on screen since I think - either he is providing holiday cover or someone has left and they've returned him to broadcasting from the behind the scenes role.
Incidentally I don't think Dan Corbett was part of the cull, he continued for a few months, though largely on World and Radio rather than TV, after the others had gone and then left to move abroad.

And great to see him again - very personable and clearly knowledgable. Not that I am saying anyone else isn't, but his presentation is far more interesting than Matt Taylor and Alen Deakin for example.
I find it very bizarre to find Susan Powell, an experienced weather presenter who until recently did the Six/Ten weather forecast is now on the graveyard shift on the NC - yet we still see presenters like Chris Fawkes who have had much less experience and we've seen presenters like Rob McElwee disappear! It's very backwards and seems pretty unfair.
In fairness, I've also seen Alex Deakin, Darren Bett and Matt Taylor - the three who seem to cover the six and ten these days - appear in the various 'graveyard' News Channel shifts. Does Susan Powell not spend more of her time on BBC World, now?
Not sure how long this has been going on but RTÉ now have a forecast on a Sunday where they put a sign language interpreter in front of the weather map pointing and signing the forecast while the forecaster speaks off screen. Interesting concept, closest I've any news service get to this is the signing around the One on the BBC News channel

Liam Dutton going to ITN to be the Channel 4 News weather presenter. As posted by Simon King on Twitter, whilst congratulating Dutton on the new role, states that they will "miss his diva like mood swings in the office", or words to that effect.
