Is there a reason there wasn't a proper closing sequence last night? Instead of credits and the theme tune after Kirsty said goodnight it just faded to an animated Newsnight caption. Perhaps they were overrunning, and the controller just couldn't stand losing so many trailers in one junction? Rolling Eyes
It's not uncommon for Newsnight (and, for that matter Channel 4 News) to go directly to an endcap. It's a rather handy 20-second buffer zone for them to try to meet their published off-air time

Newsnight seem to be using their varied outros again. Before Easter I heard two different variants of the theme tune (these may have been the 'jazz' and other theme mentioned earlier) and yesterday Jeremy closed the show by saying that university researchers had discovered that Powerpoint presentations send you to sleep. The screen then cut to a typical cheesy, messily animated, stretched, over-the-top and difficult to read Powerpoint version of the credits - mercifully the endcap and the normal theme tune remained though.

Here's what they predicted the BBC News would look like in 2015. Let's hope not.

You'd have thought even the BBC would have got the hang of decent looking keying by 2015. Obviously not.

With all due respect, that is not answering the question of whether or not you threatened to overrule him. Laughing

I'm going to frighfully rude here Mr Howard, did you or did you not threaten to over-rule him?.... I note that you're not answering the question

You still haven't answered the question... Rolling Eyes

The engineers who worked on the old virtual news studio will probably have left by 2015 according to these predictions.

And it will all be hosted by Jeremy Paxman. He'll be quizzing the politicians from the BBC Election studio - or that is where he'll start the programme. He'll finish in another studio entirely. It's worth watching just to see if he makes it - or whether for the first time ever, Jeremy "empty chairs" himself delayed, in a BBC corridor.

You really can't miss this one.

Simon

The chair could become quite a tough interviewer...

Is Jeremy now in N6? The desks suddenly changed, but other than that its hard to tell.

Certainly is N6. The floor is a dead giveaway.

He actually ended the programme by saying "We're in a temporary studio, because we've been evicted from our usual studio by the election programme... they all look very comfortable there - although I suppose they'll need to be; they'll be there all night."

Which studio was Jeremy Vine in? Last week there was a report on the rehearsals, which saw him against a set that was made of shiny green plastic (for the CSO swingometer of course).

Paxman's "Week on Newsnight" links are filmed Behind the Scenes this week, in some sort of camera storeroom, while the Election show was using TC7: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/5204778.stm
