Exactly - you knew where you were with the original set, desk for news and serious stuff, sofa for a more relaxed take on the news, and fluffy stuff.
Did the editor of Breakfast News not say that 'viewers were never sure when news ended and features began' - that is the problem now because of the one presenting area, they have hard news(the little that they have these days) with the light stuff coming from the same area.
Having different areas helped it seem more fast-paced, now it's just a place to sell the careerist Kaplinsky looking for work.
Umm very true, In more ways than one. Did you ever hear of the Kaplisky discussion board at the BBC? It was shut down within an hour because of "offensive" comments...
The set does need changing and the move to news 24's studio doesn't happen for a while yet, so I think it would be an excellent replacement.
There's a nice peice on "Fonics" tonight on Newsnight, forget who's presenting it though.
No, i never heard of that, intersting, probably because the board had very true words to say about her.
Anyway, back to Newsnight, and supposing Martha gets either editor, or chief political correspondent, who should replace her?
Garry Gibbon seems to be a top contender.
A thing that annoys me about it, is that why there is a Newsnight political editor - to me it seems as if Newsnight has nothing to do with the rest of BBC News, why don't they just have a chief political correspondent? Seems a bit odd to me, since IIRC Andy has appeared on Newsnight, and he is political editor, but so is Martha Kearny?
Maybe that's just me
I wouldn't rule out this Elina Goodman move. I've heard several conflicting reports.
Garry Gibbon would be a good replacement and I've never understood why Newsnight has their own editor, The only reason I can think is that there is more analysis and investigations
