Never quite sure whether this story was quite as important as Sky made it (blanket coverage).

I think this was a case of going with what most of the audience wanted. Obviously in the scheme of things it wasn't particularly important, but many more people were apparently emailing Sky to congratulate them on the coverage than to say it was too much, won't be surprised if the news channels' audience shares were up a fair bit over the two days.

Shocked Surprised they passed N24, I thought their coverage was infallable.

I'm not surprised at all. For those people who were tuning in because of the whale (i.e. the extra 1% those channels got on the Saturday) Sky was providing by a long way the better coverage.

For the people who wanted the other news as well, N24 would have been the better choice, but you can see from those figures what the public wanted! Smile

Sky will be particularly pleased because their ratings normally drop off a cliff at the weekend.

Couldn't agree more. Sky was absolutely excellent at the weekend, some of the best rolling news coverage I have seen in recent times, and they should all be given a pat on the back, with special credit to Martin Stanford. I thought he was absolutely fantastic during his 'marathon' shift - he has soared way up on my list of favourite newsreaders since Saturday. Congratulations to Sky.
