It's being reported that the whale has died Sad

Yes Sad It was a strange moment when Sky got the report, Matin Poppell paused and his words to the director were something like "Can you just confirm that's the case before we go on air and say that?"

Fox News taking Sky News, in 4:3 I think, complete with straps under their own.

..and took a few moments to cut away when Sky moved back to the studio for breaking news on Mark Oaten's resignation!

Would be interesting to see some screengrabs of what Fox News taking Sky News looked like..

Have they done this before?

It is sad news that the Whale didn't make it.

Chances are it would have been something suggestive like:

"WHALE DIES"
"Terrorists not ruled out"
"Suspicous looking muslim seen near river"
"Test results: Anthrax not present in river"

News 24 running no other news from at least 1400 > 1820 (small sports bulletin though)

They ran with the whale story from before midday, with no breaks right through until just before 18:00, where they broke for the weather, and did a proper TOTH headline sequence. (Just 3 stories). Then back with the whale until around 18:20.

Sky's been doing some interesting things during this story, during the day they had News 24-style maps over the shoulder of live correspondents (and Kay) and just now they had the usual email graphic over a full-frame live shot of the barge.

Sky News now showing live pictures with Jonathan Samuels from a small boat following the barge.

It's a shame the picture broke up before the whale died, as the barge doing a u-turn in the Thames was the first sign the whale had died.

Sky are still 'all over this story' as a certain US network likes to call it.
