I watched some of the ITV News special this morning and it struck me how seamless Alastair is at things like this. He really is an asset to ITV News.

Agreed. I've just posted about Alastair in the ITV News thread. He handled the special programme this morning almost effortlessly. Alastair is an excellent broadcaster. I really think he deserves his own ITV News bulletin. Why Mark Austin needs two bulletins to himself is beyond me. Give Alastair the 22.30 if you ask me.

Hear hear Rob.......amazing performance from Al this morning. Clear, concise and thorough! He should get his own bulletin, without doubt.

Correspondents/reporters I think have also been of immense standard today and all including the use of regional reporters i.e. Reporting Scotlands Glenn Campbell at Birmingham Airport.
Any idea what Glenn was doing so far off his patch? He was there on Breakfast this morning, and it seemed a little odd to me - but good use of resources all the same if he was in the area.

Also, I think they managed to get a reporter on the ground at Glasgow Airport marginally quicker than one at Heathrow - I'm guessing security at GLA is a little less complex than at LHR.

Channel 4's graphics with the radar screen are looking a wee bit Fox News-ish - but they've got a Breaking News strap popping up occasionally too, which I hadn't seen before and looks rather nice.

Well Glenn was reporting from some Zoo for Breakfast yesterday - was it Nottingham?, so one presumes he is now reporting for Breakfast

Its nice to see that the central region is showing a Central News Special at 7.30

But surely UTV have the argument that their sister Radio station is of direct benefit to viewers to keep abreast of developments should they leave the house?

Can't disagree with you - just wondering if in any way it breaks broadcasting regulations. I'm wondering whether UTV have unwittingly stumbled into another thing they're technically not allowed to do, just like the time they hiked GMTV off the air...

I hate that studio. The "backdrop" is hardly disernable. Do you think they will get a new set soon....they really need it.

They will be getting a new set around September some time when they move into the larger "Gerry Meets" studio.

Going majorly off topic, but I think Alistair Stewart is appreciated more due to his less regular apperances. I guess when presenters appear less frequently you concentrate on their qualities, rather than their faults.

Alistair has been outstanding today - and I thought it was interesting earlier how Alistair was kept in the studio to present the Lunchtime News while Nicholas Owen was out at Gatwick to host a segment of probably less than two minutes!
