The astons used on the national news were a poor compromise - they should have just used the N24 graphics.
Though officially the Ten o'clock News Hour, the News 24 part was hardly linked to the 10pm news. It went back to News 24 astons, used the News 24 ident and as it was in a different studio with a different presenter, there was no link there at all!
Having said that though - there is potential in the content, it's just the presentation that lets it down.
Missed the beginning - what happened at 10pm - did the regional headlines remain, and if so, what did News 24 do?

Regional headlines on BBC One, with News 24 opting out for their own sport headline (badly) I guess they may have to find something else to headline in the opt if the Ten does a sport headline in the network headlines.
What a dogs dinner that was, astons all over the place, the news24 handover was un rehearsed and did anyone see the MIdlands Today news opt out, what the heck was going on there, it was like watching local news on LSD (not that've taken LSD i'd like to point out!
It was just dreadful. A true cost cutting exercise which brought absolutely no improvement to News 24 or the Ten.
Presentationally speaking it was amateurish to the extreme. Following on from my comments on the BBC Sport presentation thread, can you imagine Sport allowing anything as shoddy as this to be broadcast with their name on it?
Watching the banter between Dyke & Grade you understand why Sport gets more attention as it's obviously more important to the TV execs!
Using the crash of the news headline bed for the sport bulletin, and the way the Ten end graphics had its BBC logo obscured by the ticker were two of the low-lights!
The only point which can be praised was that all of the graphics and reports on the Ten were in the safe zone and didn't clash with the tower.
I think that the concept has the potential to work very well, however last night wasn't up to much.
The '10' graphics were in the safe zone for tower and ticker but the top of the aston didn't quite line up with the top of the tower. The different font they use looks a mess too on N24. The shaded area at the bottom is unneccessary. As mentioned, at the end of the 10, the ticker obscured the 'BBC News' below the '10' logo.
The N24 opt-out went well, great to see Tim Willcox in the chair, looks likem they've realised he's a great asset to them. He did a good job as usual.
I think the use of the normal BOTH 24 sting was appropriate - it may be called the 10 News Hour but they can't maintain the image across it all, as the back half hour is in a different studio, different presenter, different setup, different graphics. When Huw handed over, they put the 24 logo on the screen in N6, so it pointed viewers towards News 24.
The use of the headline bed for sport was interesting, I think they should use the Sportsday headline theme as a bed instead - for Business they should use the former 'Business Today' bed. Papers worked well, I like the reviewer. Graphics for papers and business look cheap though, why not still use the very nice papers graphic which they usually use, with globe and ribbons to the side? Also the tower obsured part of the front page.
Also many reports had bad graphics setups and straps. I lost count of the number of times tower and ticker, or just ticker, had to be animated off.
Overall, plenty of teething problems and head scratching to do, but the concept could still work if they invested in people and time to sort it out. Really its a shame N24 can't somehow get a clean feed of the 10 and add their own astons, they are far superior to their effort.
I noticed on News 24 at around 1am they had the first report from the 10 o'clock news complete with graphics. For some reason, they put their own graphics (almost) on top of them.

Probably to hide the embarassing graphics to the rest of the world
