The thing is, when News 24 don't show the Ten they just do their own thing as if it was any other hour.

I think they should use the Ten titles, autocue, reports and - if possible - do the interviews that will be done on the Ten - so that in effect the only thing which is different is the presenter and the studio. BBC One would then do effectively the same programme 15 minutes later.

Or here's another idea... get Huw to start at 10pm whatever, show it just on News 24 if BBC One has overrun, and then just put out a time delayed recording of what's going out on News 24 on BBC One when they're ready! He'd even have time to do two different opt out sequences at the end then!

Not a bad idea - if the footie overruns a lot, like if there's extra time the commentator should say they can now watch the news on News 24 - which they didn't do last wedensday.

I always thought I detected a dislike of the Labour Party by Nick Robinson and now that I've read he used to be chairman of the Young Conservatives I can see why.

They are not allowed to pre record the News on BBC 1 as it is a breach of there public service broadcasting commitments, and they will be liable to a heafty fine. I agree that News 24 should run the 10 o'clock news hour as if it was going out on BBC 1 though, running the same stories, with similar interviews, just with a different presenter from a different studio.

Though they wouldn't be able to do the same interviews - as they'd overlap with the BBC One show. The simulcast is precisely designed to avoid this...

Sorry i did not make myself clear, i was talking about if the simulcast could not be shown because of an overunning sports event, for example the FA cup. The 10 on BBC 1 last week was on at 10.45, although News 24 used some of the material for the 10 it did not use all of it. They could quite easily feature Live interviews with correspondants, and use the same reports. I think they should even use the titles for the 10, to add consistency throughout the week.

No, you did make yourself clear - it was obvious from context. For some people though, that's not enough.

Interesting that the top of the hour on N24 has been held back a couple of minutes to allow BBC ONE to catch up. Top of the 10 hour now starting at almost exactly 22:03.

Saw that too, slightly surprised to see the countdown run (especially with the coming up graphic...) to the start of the programme. Nice handling by both Tim and Chris and it worked, marginally, better than the other, shall we say, attempts.

But what the hey, we've got 3 of these hours coming soon, even more opportunities for a good bugger up.

Maybe this simulcast idea will be very short lived.
