Because N24 needs to retain the ability to break away from the national news, for breaking news, and for their extended segments, plus the 10's graphics would then not match the 1 6 and weekend news.

So hang on. Why can't it be run through the N24 gallery with a BBC News DOG, or better no dog at all?

Even though World is coming from N6, the N6 gallery isn't used, and it is run through the World Gallery. They control the TOG with their system, and the N6 gallery still uses an old static system.
err no. When World in N6 they use the N6 Tog system. There is no reason why the nationals couldn't use it if they wanted to.

I just don't understand why N6 can't animate graphics like news 24, when BBC World use N6 they can do it, but why not normally?

True, shame the BBC can't have a generic TOG system, which could be used by all national bulletins, Newsnight, Breakfast, and other BBC News output. That wouldn't be a problem, as they can't be on air at the same time...

Of course N24 style graphics on BBC1 bulletins without any of the problems mentioned would be possible if the N6 gallery had its own dedicated tOG.

N6 has no TOG, just some form of PaintBox system. I'm sure an insider could be more specific.

So N6 has a TOG system, well why isn't it used then?

Well considering it's now simulcasting on News 24, surely it would have made sense to use the TOG if it's available to them, instead they have used static graphics which look hideous on News 24!

Maybe because it's not the most reliable of systems. Also the way it works, downstream of the Vision Mixer, is very contrary to the way N6 works with a Vision mixer etc. In News24 there is a text producer to look after the astons so it makes sense to have it downstream.

frankly you could hardly be less specific. Paintbox is, or was, a piece of hardware used to produce full frame graphics (ie bullet points) TOG is a realtime 3D generator along the lines of VizRT and Brainstorm (don't ask "what?" just google it). BBC News hasn't used Paintboxes since the early 90s when they were superceded by Quantel Harriets and eventually Hals and FXs. These aren't in N6 (by which I assume you mean the N6 gallery) but in the Nationals graphics area which services not only N6 but also TC7 (for Breakfast).
The fact is N6 does have it's own TOG system with a fully working N24/World set of name supers, but no one on the first floor knows how to use them...
