It wouldn't be too difficult for Presentation to have a generic "We're sorry that we can't bring you the news from your area at the moment. Instead, we join the ITV Yorkshire news team for Calendar" announcement for each region ready to drop into the appropriate schedule?

It just seems incredible for the wrong programme to have gone out without that being acknowledged on air in any way.

If their audio desk on the other page was down there would be no way to record that or I assume play it out.

I think the point was it would be pre-recorded and available with pres, not produced specially for a fault.

Did Calendar make no mention of it on air?

Looks like the version Granada watched was the pre recorded one, and quite rarely it seems the full 30 mins was pre recorded so there was no mention.

If it’s had been live I’m pretty sure Duncan would have mentioned it many times all the way through

Not an ideal DR set up to the take the pre recorded micro. You’d think the contingency would be to feed the live micro. Not great.

On this particular evening this would have meant Granada getting the East Yorks & Lincs version which would be even more wrong than getting the West/North Yorks version

The ident before the regional news is stitched onto the front of the opening titles as part of the programme, so there isn't any pres as such

Of course in most occasions they'd either be getting a live programme or a partially live programme (Its quite rare for Calendar to be 100% pre-rec they usually come together about 6:25 for the final story) so it would usually be acknowledged

Indeed.

Hence why the final trailer/menu of the preceding commercial break goes right up to 17:59:59 (it being the final piece of live continuity/pres before the news), with the ident itself starting at the 18:00:00 opt moment - and therefore the title sequence starting about 10 seconds (or whatever) after the true top of the hour.

The various members of the national continuity team have each pre-recorded announcements that name-check each region. (For each region there is both a version that also name-checks the "A" team anchor duo, and a generic version for when the presenter combination is anything other than the "A" duo).

Compare this to BBC One, where the ident starts at something like 17:59:50 and the news itself starts bang on 18:00:00.

Although presumably there's no reason why if they so wanted, they couldn't have the break finish at 17:59:50 so the programmes start at exactly 18:00:00?

ITV Daytime runs from exactly 6am - 6pm. (Hence the 5.59pm promo for the following day is the last thing from Daytime.)
Presumably a certain amount of advertising classed as Daytime has to air between 6 and 6, and at Daytime rates.

Why would that affect starting something 10 seconds earlier? There's no official entity as 'ITV Daytime'

True.

But that wouldn't change the fact that the ident and anno leading into the news is from a stockpile of pre-records by national announcers in London, and is a stitched-on part of the news bulletin itself. Therefore 17:59:50 would have to become the actual opt-out point.

This would therefore make no difference to the lack of a live and/or in-region announcer to explain e.g. that a neighbouring region's news was being shown due technical difficulties in your own region etc.

If you're changing the Granada schedule to cut up an OS from a studio in Leeds rather than one from Salford, is it really difficult to add a 10 second piece of emergency VT of an ident an with an apology announcement before cutting up Leeds?

Is actually showing the Granada region, Yorkshire's news of any value anyway ?

May as well slap on a Tom and Jerry cartoon !

That was my other thought. Does it still count towards the regional news quota if it's the wrong region?
