According to the BBC website, Huw Edwards is from Llangennech, near Llanelli. As I said, South Wales accents seem acceptable on national TV and radio.

Nice to hear that BBC Wales still features some local accents though - since Craig Rich retired the only regional accent to be found at BBC Plymouth is Scots! As for national broadcasters, I haven't heard my native Devonian since Bill Giles and David Vine both retired.

ITV and Sky have used plenty of itv regional presenters from the west country in recent years on their news shows but apart from jemma woodman I can't say if they were all locals from the WC.

When I was at the BBC last week, I suprised our guide by asking if she knew which departments would move to BH and when, but all she could tell me were BBC staff rumours which currently are that the move is definitely taking place in 5-6 years and that most TV news will stay in London but some news/documentary programs (so I assume she meant things like newsnight etc) would most probably be moving to Manchester.
Just thought you would like to know Very Happy

I would expect she meant pre-recorded current affairs stuff rather than live studio shows - though in the current climate who knows... I suspect even senior management don't know yet...

According to today's Media Guardian News won't be moving into BH until 2012, so I reckon they'll have to think of some contingency plans. They can't keep in TC7, N6, N8 and N9 until then. I certainly can't see N8 remaining as it is until 2012 - News 24 will need a better studio before then.

When the BBC News finally moves to BBC Broadcasting House in 2010, children's and sports move to Manchester in 2011.

What will happen to the rest of TV Centre. At the moment the studios according to some are very underused as most programmes produced for the BBC use Elstree, London Studios, Fountain Studios or Pinewood/Teddington Studios.

Will TV Centre be a quiet place or will the BBC sell it off as it has been reported in some media journals.

What does people think about this?

Well if you actually read my post which is just one above yours, you'd learn that they're not moving until 2012, and if you read the rest of the Guardian article you'll learn of the plans for TVC.

I wouldn't take what the guides say as gospel - they are primarily that, and not really in the know about things which might not even have been planned yet.

I don't see any reason why N8 can't continue until 2012, it is still in my opinion the most aesthetically pleasing news studio they've got. It may not be full of in-your-face technology but its easily the warmest news studio visually. Yes, there are space issues and perhaps the screens and glass could be replaced but a major change should not be a below-inflation license fee BBC's priority.

The set may be deemed acceptable - but I suspect the equipment will be on its last legs well before the move to BH... The News 24 and World studios are largely full of kit that was installed 9 or 10 years ago - which is getting on a bit in modern TV terms...

I have just read on the BBC website that today is when the process of the sale of BBC Resources will begin.

Does this mean that BBC Television Centre is included in this. How does that effect BBC News which use the studios if it does?

Information is said to be appearing in the Financial Times today.

It isn't clear yet. BBC Resources are a major user of TV Centre - but equally there are a large number of other users - with BBC production departments resident there as well. Some of these, Kids and Sport, are due to move to Salford (though the timescale for this move hasn't been made definite AFAIK), and News will be leaving the News Centre and their non-News centre studio when BH is ready. (2012 may be optimistic...)

It may be that some buyers for BBC Studios also make an offer on the TV Centre building, rather than agreeing to a fixed term lease? Time will tell.

I would imagine that News would simply continue with their current contract with BBC Resources (under a new name when they are no longer part of the BBC) for the studio that they currently have on long-term loan, until they move to BH. Similarly I would expect Sport to continue with their long-term deal until they move to Salford.

The other three current News studios are not owned or operated by BBC Resources - they are owned and run by BBC News.

If any sale of BBC Studios ends up with a sale of the TVC site as well - I would imagine a deal would be struck to allow current BBC residents - including BBC News - to remain until they leave at a similar cost level?
