It be only be a few months old, but it looks tired to me. Lets hope they've done some sort of refresh.

Spotlight has new titles to match the national look. And in a tip of the hat to the past, they are using a motif reminiscent of the old lighthouse look. Check it out 6.30 on BBC1 South West.

Just seen the new end caps.
I like the fact that Spotlight has opted to be different, with the lighthouse style motif.
However, they have a bit of a habit of doing things by halves.
They've kept the blend, cheapo looking titles, complete with information pulses, and simply stuck the new astons at the beginning of the start up and the end of the titles.
It adds a twist to something that was getting boring, but the dark black and red astons seem really mismatched next to the bright, middle-of-the-day title images.
A nice effort, but please just rebrand everything at the same time!
and change the bloody music!!

By the way, where's Justin gone to? I'm sure he's been off for at least a couple of weeks with this "sore throat" of his...

Just noticed the changes on the bulletin after the 10 tonight, the new logo looks great, and so nice to see the lighthouse back (in a way):

I watched the full (6:30pm) titles on the website. They look good. I also looked at a couple of other regions, the ones I saw don't seem to have gone for the use of a "retro" logo. Nice to see Spotlight doing something innovative for a change! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Fantastic to see the lighthouse back! Very Happy

I was always surprised that when they changed from the "map" titles of generic look mk1 to the "clips" titles of the subsequent BBC generic looks, that they didn't go for, say, prominent shots of real lighthouses in the region. Confused

Isn't it well documented that Spotlight were dragged into the 1st generic look, kicking and screaming?

In fact, their version of the generic look mk1 set, wasn't quite "kosher" - it retained elemets of its pre-generic predecessor.

i.e. Painted floor, as opposed to laminate flooring (albeit changed from black to orange-y); the platform was refurbished with beige edging and blue carpet, rather than the blue carpet being directly on the floor; the non-beige bits of wall were orange-y rather than the mustard-yellow of other English regions...

Ooh, those Plymouth rebels... Exclamation

EDIT: It looks like the Channel Islands version is not bothering with the lighthouse motif. Sad

Not only are they using the previous red/white endboard in the Channel Islands, they also have the previous red/gold/brown endboard on the screen (the version introduced in 2004, not the red/yellow version of 2002-04).

Also, I noticed Spotlight (SW) have fixed their titles and now have the national style ribbons at the beginning of the main title sequence and not the zoom into the red/white rings. I'm glad as it was a mish-mash of old and new looks for the past couple of weeks. Great to see the lighthouse back and great to see the new titles finally coherent!

I'm pleased too, let's hope this is the start of a "tiny" bit of regional identity creeping back into BBC NEWS. It doesn't have to be much, just enough so that we can realise that we are watching an individual programme produced for a specific area Very Happy

having just come home from Plymouth after a weekend , the new titles are fantastic!

One question- would you prefer the Look North/NWT music, the London music, Sportlights current music, or being a rebel, Points West music?

Look Norths music would be fantastic

No definitely prefer Spotlight's current music. It's better than any of the other versions and am I right in saying Spotlight is the ONLY region to still use it - hence something different from the generic music now used in most regions? I'm not sure but I can't think of any other region still using it. Points West music I quite like - perhaps Spotlight could remix their own version rather than simply take LDN's castoff like all the others have?

East Midlands Today still use the same music. The theme music seems to have become more and more fragmented over the past couple of years, first the variations of the original BBC London, then Points West and then BBC London suprise everyone by unveiling a new theme at the end of the last year.
