Two things to note regarding tonight's bulletin just before 8pm...
Hamish Marshall presenting a bulletin for the first time in a while (and I think he said he's doing Breakfast tomorrow as well)
and also:
Another slip up with the pre recorded backgrounds - broad daylight but very foggy just before 8pm according to Spotlight's "window" on Plymouth... I think not!
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this but Spotlight keeps seeming to play around with its title sequence.
A few weeks ago they cut straight from the 6 to headlines followed by a welcome to the programme and 'also tonight......' all with very dodgy thunderclaps.
Now they've reverted back to the short sting folowed by a welcome, the main headlines, back to the presenters for a 'also tonight....' (without thunderclaps for the second part).
Nice to see them experimenting a bit I suppose, even if they change it back. At least both these versions were better than the '6 style' opening when the studio first came along - although I did love the 'welcome to the programme' style shot with the window behind them after the titles.
Along similar lines, someone said they used LDN music for a short period. Is this true? I never saw this so was it a very short period? Does anyone have any caps?
i don't remember it ever being used
however what i can say is they bloody well need it!
the 2002 music is well past it's sell by date now, and their most recent opening sequence looks extremely cheap compared to the original.
And they need to concentrate on their headline bed too. it's been very dodgy over the past few weeks.
rather than all these shift arounds, Spotlight needs a complete overhaul, graphics, music, headline bed and sequence, ending, everything
brighten up the set too, the grey behind the presenters is far too depressing for a local news programme.
Spotlight has always been popular, but is now lagging far behind the other Beeb regions. They need to stay ahead of the game to stay on top.
the lighthouse era was by far spotlights best
cracking music, both pre and post 1999, great graphics, flashy opening sequence that really reflected the region, those really were the days
is there some cost cutting going on in the bbc regions at the moment?
Does anyone know who that was with Victoria on tonight's Spotlight? I've probably seen her before, but I only managed to catch the end of tonight's bulletin and so didn't get a good look at her to recognise her.
I've tried watching the bulletin online but it starts after the headlines and for some reason all I get is a blue screen, so I can't watch it anyway!
Yes I think you probably should have seen her before as shes been with spotlight for about 4 years. Her name's Sophie Long.
Btw , i find it amusing that Sophie and Victoria are teasing Justin about his sore throat and are finding it funny that he's off this week with it. No sympathy for him from the women.
Victoria was showing off about walking from Looe to Polperro last weekend , no great shakes as it's an easy walk of four miles but is quite picturesque.
The Spotlight studio is a little different today - Natalie is at the desk in front of the window normally behind the sofa. An indication of a new look? But on the other hand it has only been 6 months or so since the updated titles and the set is only two years old?
EDIT: At the end of the programme the studio looked VERYstrange. She was sat in front of the weather CSO/big screen and the normal window was showing a three vertical 'panel' look of red and grey??!
