Ah I see - no wonder you were confused!

If this is the case, then Westcountry are being a bit naughty are they not? Recording news isn't allowed, is it?

I too had been wondering about this. For some weeks the East edition has stopped coming from the Exeter CSO studio and has been presented from the sofa in Plymouth with the plasma screen. This must mean it is now recorded and not based in Exeter...

BBC Spotlight has been recording the Plymouth-based intro for the CI-intro for some time (when I have watched both anyway - I will check tomorrow as just missed the chance today). Although I accept that an intro is different.

ITV's proposals for the Westcountry/West merger would require recorded inserts for the North/West/East sub-regions of Westcountry into the default South 10-minute segment.

Why is the BBC leasing the building and not owning it outright?

Have you seen the plans? It'd cost freehold a fortune.

Here's the design ....

should that not be "why oh why the BBC leasing the building and not owning it outright? Its a disgracefull waste and a sign that the PC brigade have got their hands on what was once a fine british institution. How very dare they reject the traditional purchase of property for lefty 'leasing'. I'm going to write a stongly worded email to the queen"

The answer by the way is that purchase transactions would require a huge cash sum up front; whilst leasing does not.

They pulled down the Shipwright Arms pub to build that??? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Given the flooding on that part of Sutton Road in Plymouth- Spotlight could become very interesting if there's a downpour Laughing Laughing

PS weren't Westcountry going to go there after winning the franchaise in 1991??? What goes around I guess Wink

Completely uncalled for. I considered this to be a perfectly legitimate question; yes, producing a huge sum of cash would perhaps not be practical or possible but by leasing, instead of buying outright, they will be forever paying for it which in the long term could be more expensive.

There is an incredibly simple retort to that point, Simon.

Are you living in rented or purchased accomodation at this moment?

Are you privy to costings of how much it costs to build in addition to how much it costs to rent?

No thought not.

Incidentally, according to Sutton Holdings, another tenant will be the solicitors who are vacating the Derry's Cross ex Westward/TSW building.
