"do you wanna now?"
"yer why not"
just proves talk between the presenters after the tiles on westcountry live is real (this happened tonight when the mics were up too quick) - sounds a bit wrong though lmao

I'm sure I've mentioned this on here before, but here goes again:

The "soft area" used for the end of Spotlight appears to now use a back-projection screen rather than CSO.

I emailed Spotlight ages ago and got the reply that it wasn't B-P, and given a lenthy explanation of CSO Sad . But I guessed I wasn't talking to the right person as they claimed that ITV Westcountry also used CSO (which we all know they don't, and haven't done for a while for the main programme).

I know Spotlight use CSO for the weather and behind the main desk, but I have studied pictures on freeze frame of the soft area (sad I know Confused ) and cannot find any evidence of a CSO blur.

If it is back-projection then why don't they use it for the Breakfast/Morning bulletins instead of the CSO behind the desk? When Victoria Graham used to do the Breakfast bulletins she was always on the sofa anyway.

Any info to solve my puzzle welcome Very Happy

Spotlight using a nice snow effect, including today, a waving snowman on the screen in the soft area.

They've used it for the last 3 or 4 stories the last couple of nights.

Very nice Wink

I love the way, after the story about the Exeter junior school denying the existance of Father Christmas last night, David Braine keeps explaining that the snow is just an effect and not the real thing.

Minor error today on the Spolight lunchtime bulletin Laughing Laughing . Perhaps whoever was positioning the cameras before the bulletin had had a late night Laughing Laughing

But surely they would notice in the gallery before doing something like that, I suspect its not a floor manger fault but just using the wrong shot at the wrong time...

IIRC the Floor Manager sets up the 5 cameras in pre-arranged positions for each bulletin. The CSO shots are therefore from pre-determined positions, I'm guessing this camera was just on the wrong mark on the studio floor (possibly the christmas tree is covering the correct mark)

So why does the overlay match the position on the set (aka its where it should be)

It doesn't. The whole of that grey area (surrounding and including the video feed) is overlaid. Whenever I've seen this shot before the camera has been further back and to the left (just where the Christmas Tree is), giving the impression that the set is larger than it actually is.

EDIT, the curve at the bottom of the overlay normally "sits" against the curve of the desk I think.

Hi Oliver. Thanks for the e-mail. Our studios here in Plymouth require major investment in order to make the switch to widescreen format. At the same time the BBC is considering moving to new premises in the centre of Plymouth. A decsuion has yet to made on whether we can justify spending a large amount of money on a refurbishment in the knowledge that we'll be moving out of this building within two to three years. So as yet we can't give you an answer as to when we'll be switching our programmes to widescreen.
