Drudge report are reporting this:

Quote:
FLASH: Scare TIME/CNN building in NYC, suspicious package closes down portion 6th Avenue... Man on ground, police on top of him -- witness... Bomb squad remove large package / suitcase Tue Nov 02 2004 16:03:25 ET...

Let's just hope nobody gets hurt.

On a slightly more trivial note, is this where they are (or should be) presenting the election coverage from?

is there any confirmation of this??

hmm... it's dissappeared from Drudge now, so it might have all been rubbish.

I think they are known for having got it wrong in the past, so I've no idea what's going on.

The only sniff that I got of any problems at CNN was several of their transatlantic sat-feeds collapsed for around 20 mins, and their net feed of Time Square went to 'programmes resume shortly'.

Their net feed is now showing Lehigh County polling station in Louisiana

By the way, it is now possible to go on a guided tour of the CNN operation in New York. It lasts 45 minutes and costs $15 IIRC, but is quite interesting as it gives a chance to enter one of the studios and see the CNNfn newsroom in action. It has only been running since September, and is not very well known, so I ended up being the only person on my tour! You get a chance to "do" the weather and practise autocue (called teleprompter). They refer to Chromakey just as the beeb do.

Although no live rolling news comes from there on the main channels, it is used extensively for occasional programming such as Wolf Blitzer and Paula Zahn, and the soon to be defunct CNNfn of course!

Strangely, the morning CNN show continues to come from a studio in the Time and Life building, just up from the Rockefeller Center, which itself houses the famous NBC Today set of course. Other New York locations include the ABC building in Times Square, which I believe is used by BBC World for the World Business Report shows (you can see neighbouring Toys'R'Us during broadcasts!)

BBC locations in New York are rather uninteresting as far as I am aware. The main news office just up the road from the Lincoln Center is within a nonedescript office block. I gather there is also an office, where most of the BBC staff are based, on 3rd avenue, but I have never managed to find it. Any insider information on the forum?
