Way off topic but if an election was forced beforehand would the by election go ahead?

I guess a summer by election would always have been covered by the news channel anyway, but longer term no reason Brexitcast couldn't do it.

Brexitcast have already covered the European Elections on R4 and R5 Live recently and it was a decent job.

IIRC, if a general election is called whilst a by-election is scheduled, the by-election is postponed and held as as part of the scheduled general election.

In this case, if a GE was called before 1st August, the by-election would not be likely to go ahead because the elected MP would only sit for a brief period before Parliament is dissolved (if they got to sit at all)

However, with summer recess starting Wednesday, and the risk of a snap election being dependent on the Conservative leadership contest and the fallout from the result, my assumptions should be taken with more than a pinch of salt. There are a few too many ifs and buts to say for certain what the procedure is in what is currently still a hypothetical.

Just checked on iPlayer and yes. Last Friday was Chris Mason.

Last year, the party conference season meant Politics Live dumped the round table shout fest, however this year, they have a desk where they can continue the same format.

They also have that quite nifty "mini trundle cam" set up. Very Happy

BBC using the red button channel for coverage of the Conservative Conference whilst BBC Parliament show, well, Parliament.

That seems an odd decision, since Boris's speech is taking place at the same time as PMQs, and that is being shown on BBC Two (Politics Live) and the NC.

That looks a bit cheap. I hate when you can see LED bulbs on any set. Perhaps if they'd gone for a bright pink rather than dull blue it would have lit the whole strip up and looked better

At a guess you can only see the individual LEDs because they have had to dim them. If they were using a well lit studio they wouldn't be so obvious.
