Last time BBC Parliament aired the 1979 election did they air the news bulletin that went out at 9:30pm that night? It's on air now.

I did wonder if the clock preceding it was a reconstruction, as they cut to the titles at 21:30:13, unusually sloppy for the BBC who tended to prefer going in at :15 :30 or :45 sec if they couldn't hit the minute dead on. But then I thought they wouldn't go to the bother of mocking it up, so it may well have been genuine. I worry about this stuff;-)

This answers my question actually but the clock did the same thing in an April 2013 rebroadcast on Parliament so either it is genuine or it was recreated a while ago:

It's interesting how the network programme is taking a dirty feed of BBC Scotland's programme rather than getting their count OBs fed directly and occasionally not leaving quickly enough, although it looks like they had a DTL position with a similar set available for contributions into the network programme.

DOGless as well which is a nice touch, don’t we usually see at least a “1979” for the hard-of-understanding?

I was expecting to see a hashtag.

#Decision79 is apparently trending on Twitter all on its own and BBC Parliament are irregulary tweeting along with their broadcast.

Here's a bad hair day if ever there was one courtesy of Geoffrey Howe, what is going on here? And look at the size of that rosette!

Funnily enough so is David Steel.

Loving the fact that it's all 'frightfully posh' and serious...

Amazing what you find buried in 40 year old broadcasts that you thought had fell through the tape wiping machine...

^ Re: that tweet, are we sure that Stilgoe hated TVS personally and was not just commissioned by Southern employees to make that song for their farewell dinner (which admittedly was actually broadcast as part of Day by Day for some reason)

I think the tweet is badly written in all honesty, it's documented Southern commissioned Mr Stilgoe to write that, presumably on the back of other work he'd done for Nationwide and elsewhere. I don't think he did any other work for Southern or TVS, he's perhaps better known for theatre songs.

Would be really fascinating to see repeats of the 2005 and 2010 elections next year, on their 10th/15th anniversaries - the first was the first one I stayed up all night to watch (at the age of 16), and the second was the first one I voted in, "agreeing with Nick" as a 21 year old uni student. Not sure I'm ready to relive the horrors of 2015 yet though.

Election presenters are a bit like Blue Peter for me, you always have a nostalgic attachment to the ones you grew up with - Dimbleby, Snow and Paxman will always be the "classic" lineup for me, but I'm a big fan of the 1970 team too.

Imagine the social media backlash to Robin Day's response to this question, if a similar answer was given today....
