The BBC are really cutting back from their PSB programming recently aren’t they, it’s almost as if they’ve forgotten why they are licence fee funded.

Cuts to national and regional news, axing Sunday Politics, axing This Week, BBC News Channel down to its bare bones, what’ll be next.

A double shame - a) that Andrew Neil is stepping down and b) that the show is therefore ending. No doubt it’ll be replaced by something more “accessible” and “relevant” but ultimately less watchable (see also Politics Live).

I think I suggest her for any gig that comes up, but Emma Barnett could successfully take the show on. She’s razor-sharp and witty.

Always a brilliant listen on Five Live, I find.

So July or December 2019? Will it end at the summer recess of parliament in July or will it end at Christmas time, to end 2019?

The Times is reporting this summer, so it'll be the summer recess when it ends.

Andrew has mentioned nothing about this on the show so far tonight

So, not one mention from Andrew tonight on the ending of This Week.

What exactly were you expecting him to say? Can’t say I expected any reference at all.

"I've quit the show and as a result all these people have lost their jobs."

I remember Eddie Mair sitting in on a few occasions and he was excellent. Just the right amount of cynicism and likeability. Pity he’s left the BBC, he would have been perfect.

He could still be. He's only left BBC radio. Other LBC presenters (James O'Brien and Nick Ferrari) have been 'guest' presenters of Newsnight in recent years ?

However, probably too much of a combined work load to be anything other than a guest presenter from time to time ?

I don't think Eddie is particularly fond of doing television. Got the impression he was more at home behind a mic.

Speaking of Eddie, there's a great profile on the Guardian. He's clearly really enjoying his job since he moved to LBC.

BBC News article has now appeared https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47251264.

Perhaps telling to note the final paragraph is...
"It comes after the BBC also announced it would be shortening the News at Ten, finishing the national and regional bulletin 10 minutes earlier at 22:35, from 4 March."
